In collaboration with the Senior Chemist and Laboratory Manager, this role is essential for driving operational excellence, ensuring the delivery of accurate and reliable analytical results, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations within assigned shift, coordinate team activities, and ensure efficient workflow management.
  • Assist Senior Chemist in managing laboratory activity (method revisions, chemical/reagent and instrument management).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust quality management systems and standard operating procedures to guarantee data integrity and compliance.
  • Establish and optimize analytical methods, ensuring their alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, including maintenance, calibration, and validation activities to maintain operational excellence.
  • First point of contact for the internal customers issues (manage sample and incorrect result).
  • Focal person in review and prepare Certificate of Analysis for product release.
  • Implement and utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to effectively manage data, generate reports, and ensure data traceability.
  • Key person in setup and verification of new analytical test method, including calibration and maintenance frequency, resulting in LIMS for quality assurance and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Coordinator for special sample analysis request (round robin, sample to a third party external or internal laboratory, project)
  • Analyze laboratory performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide mentorship and training to shift staff to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure effective communication.
  • Work closely with the R&D team to transfer analytical methods and support product development initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Analytical/ Industrial/ Applied Chemistry or in Chemistry, or a similar field.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in analytical laboratory operations within the crude/palm oil refining, oleochemicals or chemical manufacturing sectors. Proven supervisory experience of at least 2 years is preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining Gas Chromatographs and Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometers and in-depth knowledge of testing methodologies for Jet Fuel and Diesel/Gasoil.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and data analysis software.
  • In-depth understanding of local legal regulations and ISO 9001 quality management system requirements. Knowledge of ISO17025 certification is desirable.
  • Possession of relevant industry certifications, such as Certified Chemist Registered with IKM (Institut Kimia Malaysia), is advantageous.
