Technical Service Manager (Performance Materials & Additives)
The Technical Service Manager (Performance Materials & Additives) serves as a key technical resource, offering expertise on a portfolio of polymer additives and specialty materials. This role bridges the gap between R&D, production, and customer needs, ensuring solutions that enhance the performance of polymers and related materials. Responsibilities include supporting clients across industries such as plastics, coatings, automotive, and metallurgy, providing guidance from development to commercialization. In addition to technical support, the position also involves collaborating with the sales and marketing teams to promote the company’s products, including creating technical presentations, participating in industry events, and supporting product launches. The focus is on ensuring the successful application of additives in customer-specific formulations, fostering customer satisfaction, and driving product innovation.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to customers on material selection, processing conditions, formulation optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the application of oleochemical additives in industries such as polymers, CASE, metallurgy, and other relevant sectors. Provide technical insights on the use of these materials in sectors like plastics, automotive, consumer electronics, powder metallurgy, coatings, adhesives, and elastomers.
- Support the sales team with technical presentations, product demonstrations, and training materials.
- Work with sales and marketing teams to promote the technical benefits of polymer additives and performance materials. Prepare and deliver technical presentations and demonstrations to highlight product performance and capabilities.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to develop customized material solutions for customer needs and resolve technical challenges. Provide regular feedback to the R&D and production teams to continuously improve product offerings.
- Work with product development teams to test and introduce new materials to the market.
- Collaborate with quality control and production teams to ensure product specifications align with customer needs.
- Represent the company and participate in technical seminars, webinars, and industry conferences to promote the company’s product offerings.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, regulatory changes, and new technologies affecting performance materials and polymer additives
- Maintain detailed documentation of customer interactions, technical service reports, and product performance data.
Job Success Requirements
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field is preferred, or a Master’s degree with extensive industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience in technical service, product development, or application engineering within the plastics, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, or materials industry.
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastics and related performance materials.
- Proven ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting for customers.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support customer needs.
