Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Examination and Diagnosis:
- Conduct thorough oral examinations to identify dental problems, including cavities, gum disease, and other conditions.
- Review patient history and medical conditions to develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Treatment Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement treatment plans for patients, including fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, and extractions.
- Provide dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Oral Health Education:
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits.
- Advise patients on nutrition and lifestyle choices that impact oral health.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other dental professionals, such as dental hygienists and assistants, to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining treatment options and addressing concerns.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, procedures performed, and progress notes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards in dental practice.
- Supervision (in some cases):
- Supervise and train dental assistants and hygienists, providing guidance and support.
- Professional Development:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in dental technology and techniques.
- Participate in continuing education courses to maintain and enhance skills.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
- Completion of a dental residency or fellowship may be required for certain specialties.
- Licensure:
- Valid dental license in the state or region where practicing.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical skills in all areas of general dentistry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Computer proficiency for electronic health records and other dental software.
- Experience:
- Prior experience in a dental practice may be preferred.
