Job Title: Fire Watcher – Tank Maintenance

Job Type: Contract

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Fire Watcher to monitor and enforce safety during hot work activities such as welding, cutting, and grinding during tank maintenance. The Fire Watcher will ensure fire hazards are controlled, safety protocols are followed, and immediate action is taken in case of emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor hot work areas to prevent and respond to fire hazards.
  • Ensure fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other fire suppression equipment are available and functional.
  • Inspect the work area for flammable materials and potential ignition sources before work begins.
  • Maintain a clear fire watch for at least 30 minutes after hot work completion.
  • Alert workers and supervisors in case of fire, sparks, or unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in confined spaces to prevent gas accumulation.
  • Keep a safe perimeter around hot work zones and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Assist in confined space entry monitoring, if required.
  • Report any safety violations, near misses, or incidents to the supervisor.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response training.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience as a Fire Watcher or safety attendant in industrial or tank maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of fire hazards, prevention methods, and emergency response.
  • Familiarity with hot work permits, confined space safety, and LOTO procedures.
  • Ability to stay alert and focused for long periods.
  • Basic understanding of welding, grinding, and cutting processes.
  • Ability to use fire extinguishers, fire suppression equipment, and gas detectors.
  • Strong communication skills to report hazards effectively.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long hours.
  • Certification in Fire Watch, OSHA, or HSE safety training (preferred).

Work Conditions:

  • Exposure to hot temperatures, sparks, smoke, and loud environments.
  • Work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Flexible to work overtime, weekends, and shifts as needed.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Fire Watcher in industrial, oil & gas, or construction projects.

Job Type: Contract
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: RM16.00 - RM18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 46 per week
