JOB OBJECTIVE
The principal objective of this post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching, research, and postgraduate training programmes in the Department of Pharmacology.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A PhD in Pharmacology or a closely related discipline (e.g., Pharmaceutical Sciences, Clinical Pharmacology, or Medicinal Chemistry) is essential.
- A first degree (e.g., BSc or equivalent) in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or a related life sciences field is required.
- Current registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., General Pharmaceutical Council or equivalent international regulator) is desirable.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in pharmacology, with a proven track record in curriculum development and delivery.
- Successful supervision of postgraduate students (e.g., MSc or PhD candidates) to completion is highly desirable.
- A developing international research profile, demonstrated through conference presentations, collaborations, or research grants.
- Excellent ability to deliver high-quality teaching in pharmacology topics, including pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, drug design, and therapeutics, using innovative and student-centred methods.
- Proven ability to secure research funding and manage research budgets effectively.
- Effective interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with colleagues, mentor students, and engage with external stakeholders.
- Capability to lead teaching teams, coordinate modules, and contribute to departmental administration (e.g., committee work or exam board responsibilities).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Contributing to the delivery of the Pharmacology components of the University curriculum to the students of University School of Medicine, and to coordinate other relevant teaching modules as required
- Developing, monitoring and supporting the education programme within the Junior Cycle, including the application of well-established and tested education methods including reliability and validity in examinations and assessment approaches.
- Assisting the Junior Cycle Lead in Pharmacology, as required, in delivering the curriculum.
- Participating in the Pharmacology Department’s lecture, practical and “card signing” activities, as directed by the Lead in Pharmacology
- As appropriate, developing new courses and curricular required meeting ever-changing needs in education within the university and community.
- Contributing to the examination and assessment processes of and University, including practical and the grading of examinations, papers and projects.
- Participating in and developing research activities in the Junior Cycle
- As appropriate pursuing independent research or research collaborations relevant to the undergraduate medical school.
- Attending University Medical Faculty Board and Committee meetings as required.
- Implementing policies and decisions as determined by the Dean and the University Medical Faculty Board.
- Advising and mentoring undergraduate students and providing advocacy as appropriate.
- Maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
- Supporting students by participating in the Personal Tutor system.
- Promoting innovative education technologies as appropriate to support the course content.
- Preparing subject content for e-learning purposes as requested
- Ensuring course curricular and materials are kept up-to-date
- Complying with Malaysian statutory legislation and implementing University rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
- You will be required to provide services related to your training / specialty as directed by the Vice Chancellor.
