The Customer Project Engineer is the primary customer contact person for managing customer projects to ensure projects are delivered within the timeline, scope, and cost. The Customer Project Engineer is also responsible for managing customer communication and acting as the customer focal point throughout project execution, from the project transfer stage from the Sales department through to the closure of the project.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Customer Management
- Serve as the point of contact for Project and Technical Communication with the customer during FAT.
- Responsible for customer inspections (PIM/FAT/Packing Inspection).
- Ensure that customer requests and questions are addressed or escalated to the project team if they cannot be resolved immediately.
- Travel for Kick-off Meetings (KOM) and progress meetings as required by the projects.
- Ensure systems are ready for FAT in advance.
- Conduct FAT with the client on behalf of outstation teams.
- Ensure timely initiation of FAT planning by outstation teams.
- Minimize non-conformance costs (Punch Items and Re-FAT).
- Properly close Punch Items.
- Approve system release only when all pending items are resolved.
- Attend FATs for third-party supplies at supplier sites on behalf of the outstation team.
- Participate in meetings and audits of third-party suppliers as needed.
- Ensure effective communication within the project team and stakeholders internationally.
- Establish key relationships within the factory.
- Listen actively and communicate effectively.
- Ensure Sales initiates the handover to execution. Participate in Customer Kick-Off Meetings and initiate internal project Kick-Off Meetings.
- Handle planning elements and milestones per the Customer Project Process, coordinating with Project Planning, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Service teams as needed.
- Minimize non-conformance costs.
- Organize and lead status meetings for regular project reviews with the project team when required.
- Cooperate closely with the assigned Application Design Engineer.
- Monitor document submission status in collaboration with documentation teams.
- Continuously monitor project status, identify discrepancies early, and initiate corrective actions.
- Conduct project close reviews (commercial, lessons learned, best practices).
- Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the Customer Service department.
- Manage projects within the defined budget.
- Take responsibility for project costs and margins as defined at project initiation.
- Initiate invoicing per project progress and follow up on payment status.
- Review initial project calculations, highlight discrepancies, and seek clarifications.
- Participate in monthly project control reviews.
- Optimize project profitability.
- Review final project performance.
- Identify, assess, and monitor all risk factors and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Evaluate the contract for claim-relevant significance.
- Collaborate closely with the Legal department for advice.
- Develop suitable strategies for risk mitigation (elimination or reduction).
- Inform customers, management, and the project team about scope deviations.
- Mitigate external claims in collaboration with Purchasing and Sales/Tendering.
- Identify opportunities for additional business, prepare offers, and negotiate change orders in collaboration with Purchasing and Sales/Tendering.
- Engage Purchasing early in the project lifecycle.
- Timely involve qualified subcontractors/partners.
- Lead commercial clarifications with the support of Purchasing and Procurement.
- Monitor subcontractors’ performance rigorously, escalate issues promptly, and initiate corrective actions as needed.
Knowledge And Skills – Required
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5–7 years of experience in the electrical industry.
- 5–7 years of project management experience in systems/equipment business.
- Strong communication skills (adaptability, sensitivity, politeness).
- Proficiency in project management tools and methods, including economic knowledge in project business.
- Fluent in English (written and oral).
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas (O&G) industry.
