What you’ll do
- Reporting to our Legal Director of Commercial, Dispute Resolution and Employment, you will be our sole Malaysia-based lawyer prioritising all day-to-day Malaysian legal matters.
- While this is a generalist role, you will ideally prioritise any Malaysian employment and/or litigation matters.
- You will secondarily support on general commercial matters internationally, including reviewing contracts and negotiating with counterparties.
- You will also secondarily support on regulatory and corporate matters locally, although you are not expected to have prior expertise in these areas.
- You will help lead our efforts to manage external law firms including their engagement, review of work, approval of fees and on-going case management.
- Engage in training for the company to increase legal awareness throughout the organisation on how to manage risks particularly for Malaysia.
What you’ll need
- Graduated with a common law degree from a reputable university.
- Qualified Malaysian lawyer with 5-15 PQE legal experience.
- Experience from reputable law firms and, ideally, also reputable in-house organisations.
- Start-up experience is preferred, especially demonstrable experience in handling complex legal matters in fast-paced and exacting situations.
- Has the ability to work independently, take ownership of work and make tough decisions.
- Excellent legal drafting and interpretation skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, and business proficiency in Mandarin Chinese strictly required.
- Based in Malaysia, ideally Kuala Lumpur.
