The Lead Engineer for Advance Development will lead the design and development of BISSELL’s next generation floorcare appliances. This role involves managing product innovation, collaborating with suppliers, and ensuring technical excellence from concept to market. Responsibilities

  • Products innovation & Development:
  • Lead and manage the design, engineering, and development of innovative floorcare products, ensuring technical maturity and alignment with BISSELL’s specifications and standards.
  • Drive product innovation by collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and test new technologies and features.
  • Oversee technical development activities, ensuring timely and clear communication with all stakeholders and adherence to BISSELL’s Global Product Development processes.
  • Ensure product quality by working closely with BISSELL’s Quality Team and documenting all requirements and specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance on 3D CAD designs, engineering drawings, prototype builds, and product evaluations.
  • Research and incorporate emerging technologies, components, and materials to maintain BISSELL’s competitive edge.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, prepare project updates, and travel as required for successful project execution.
  • Process Optimization and Planning:
  • Facilitate the use of BISSELL’s Innovation and Global Product Development Processes for all product and major improvement projects.
  • Develop and optimize resources across BISSELL’s regional development sites for efficient project execution.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to deliver all aspects of product development efficiently.
  • Plan and manage assigned budgets, focusing on cost reduction and quality improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance development efficiency and product reliability.
  • People Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Represent the engineering function as a reliable and effective unit within BISSELL.
  • Improve and maintain the image of development engineering at BISSELL as an effective, efficient and reliable function in the company. Develop efficiency and reliability measurements. Improve and maintain the morale of those in development engineering.
  • Assist in management and administrative duties for the day-to-day activities of BMA.
  • Create & foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing preferred).
  • Experience: 8–15+ years in a technical environment with at least 3–8 years leading technical and engineering teams in consumer appliance product design. Floorcare product experience preferred.
  • Strong experience in technical project management, resource allocation, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes like plastic injection molding and product assembly.
  • Proven track record in global collaboration and multi-site project management.
  • Hands-on expertise in TRIZ, DFSS, and AI/data analytics applications in product development (preferred).
  • Familiarity with intellectual property (IP), patents, and technology scouting, along with a proven ability to integrate these into product development strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical status, risks, and solutions effectively to all organizational levels.
