RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Head (Pastoral) The Role To provide a professional and confidential counselling service to students and staff in order to promote emotional health and well-being and enable young people to develop a resilience to help them cope with any difficulties they face. Responsibilities: 1. Provide a confidential counselling service for individuals or groups of young people and staff referred for counselling within the school. 2. Manage a caseload within ethical framework. 3. Keep case records on each counselling session, in a secure place in accordance with the Data Protection Act. 4. Liaise with named school contacts on a regular basis. 5. Provide information on the counselling service and the role of the counsellor to students, staff and line managers. 6. Contribute to an annual report by providing relevant data on the counselling service. 7. Refer child protection concerns to the senior designated person within the school. 8. Attend line management, team meetings and training as required. 9. Attend regular counselling supervision with your external supervisor. 10. Provide relaxation techniques and stress reducing advice for any students feeling the effects of exam anxiety. 11. Train and mentoring scheme used with lower school students. 12. Present and talk in assemblies and events when required. 13. Design and run Anger Management Workshops according to the needs of the students. 14. Make referrals to outside agencies as required. 15. Build relations with local colleges and appoint and supervise trainee counsellors on placement in the school.
