As a QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication, you will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance with international standards (AWS, ASME, ISO) in steel fabrication, welding, and surface treatment processes. This role requires extensive experience in heavy industrial fabrication, particularly for offshore platforms, high-rise buildings, and infrastructure mega-projects. You will oversee the entire QA/QC workflow, from material inspection to final project handover, ensuring all fabrication meets the highest quality benchmarks. Key Responsibilities: 1. QA/QC Management in Heavy Fabrication Develop and implement QA/QC procedures for large-scale fabrication yards. Enforce compliance with AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ISO 9001, BS 5950, and Eurocode 3. Conduct third-party inspections with agencies like BV, TUV, Lloyd’s, and DNV. 2. Welding Quality Control & Certification Compliance Oversee advanced welding processes including GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and SAW. Approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ). Ensure strict adherence to Preheat, Interpass, and Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) procedures. 3. NDT & Structural Integrity Inspection Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) including Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Dye Penetrant Testing (PT). Conduct root cause analysis on weld defects, material failures, and fabrication errors. Ensure full compliance with ASNT Level III standards for NDT inspections. 4. High-Risk Project Execution & Client Coordination Manage quality assurance for offshore structures, refinery plants, and mega infrastructure projects. Liaise with international clients, EPC contractors, and project consultants. Supervise Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and final quality documentation. 5. Heavy Machinery & Coating Quality Assurance Ensure structural fabrication integrates with heavy machinery installation (cranes, rolling machines, bending machines). Supervise industrial coating, anti-corrosion treatment, and sandblasting processes for fabricated steel components. Minimum Qualifications Academic & Certification Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Structural Engineering (Preferably from IIT, NIT). Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – AWS or CSWIP 3.1/3.2 (Mandatory, rarely obtained by locals). ASNT NDT Level II / III Certification (RT, UT, MT, PT) (Most Malaysian engineers lack Level III NDT experience). ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification (Locals generally lack lead auditor credentials). Experience & Industry Exposure Minimum 5 years experience in mega fabrication yards (e.g., L&T, Tata Steel, BHEL, JSPL, or international offshore EPCs). Proven track record for large-scale projects. Hands-on experience managing multi-million-dollar offshore, petrochemical, and heavy steel infrastructure projects. Technical Skills & Competency (Unmatched by Local Candidates) Advanced expertise in welding metallurgy, high-strength steel, and alloy composition. Strong command of AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SolidWorks for fabrication drawings & QA processes. Direct involvement in crisis management for structural failures & defect rectifications in complex steel fabrication.
