Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain Management

  • Oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of supplies.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to maintain a steady flow of resources.

Inventory Control

  • Monitor stock levels and ensure adequate supply of essential utilities.
  • Implement inventory tracking systems to prevent shortages or excess stock.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and generate inventory reports.

Logistics Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and schedule the transportation of goods and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners for efficient logistics operations.

Fleet and Transport Management

  • Manage and track company vehicles used for logistics operations.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and servicing of transportation assets.
  • Optimize delivery routes to reduce fuel costs and delivery times.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify potential risks in supply chain operations and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements related to logistics and utilities.

Cost Control & Budgeting

  • Monitor logistics expenses and find cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare budgets and financial reports related to logistics operations.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and transportation providers.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze logistics data to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Generate reports on delivery performance, inventory levels, and supply chain effectiveness.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies based on data insights.

Emergency Response & Contingency Planning

  • Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure quick response to emergencies such as power outages, water shortages, or gas supply issues.
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams and government agencies if necessary.

Requirements for a Logistics Officer (Utilities Sector)

A Logistics Officer in the utilities sector is responsible for managing the supply chain, procurement, and distribution of essential materials and equipment needed for utility operations such as electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications.

Educational & Professional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in logistics, procurement, or supply chain management (e.g., CILT, APICS) are an advantage.
  • Proven experience in logistics, inventory management, or procurement, preferably in the utilities or energy sector.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of logistics, warehousing, and transportation management.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes, contract management, and vendor negotiations.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations in the utilities sector.
  • Ability to use logistics management systems (LMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and inventory control software.
