Lead Geotechnical/Coastal/Structural Engineer
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the geotechnical, coastal, and structural engineering aspects of onshore LNG terminal and coastal/offshore/ LNG jetty projects.
- Perform FEED design and analysis of foundations (e.g., piles, spread footings, caissons), retaining structures, coastal protection works (e.g., seawalls, breakwaters), and jetty structures (e.g., wharves, berthing dolphins), plus settlement calculations.
- Review site investigations, geotechnical surveys, and coastal data collection to inform design decisions.
- Conduct FEED design for soil improvement design and land reclamation studies.
- Develop and review geotechnical, coastal, and structural engineering reports, calculations, and drawings.
- Utilize numerical software such as Allpile, STAADPRO, SACS, or other related software for advanced analysis and design.
- Ensure compliance with relevant local and international codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Eurocodes, British Standards, American Standards, Local Standards).
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including civil & structure, mechanical, and electrical engineers, as well as project managers and clients.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Participate in project meetings, present technical findings, and contribute to problem-solving.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of all engineering deliverables.
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements in geotechnical, coastal, and structural engineering practices and technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical, Coastal, or Structural Engineering (or a related field). A Master's degree is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is highly desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in geotechnical, coastal, and structural engineering.
- Demonstrable experience in the design and analysis of structures for onshore power plants is essential.
- Significant experience in the design and analysis of coastal and/or offshore jetty structures is essential.
Skills:
- Technical Proficiency:
- Extensive knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, including soil mechanics, foundation design, and slope stability analysis.
- Strong understanding of coastal engineering principles, including wave hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and coastal protection design.
- Solid knowledge of structural engineering principles, including structural analysis, design of steel and concrete structures.
- Proficiency in using numerical software for geotechnical analysis (e.g., Allpile), structural analysis (e.g., STAADPRO, SACS), or other related software.
- Proficiency in utilizing CAD software such as AutoCAD and Rhinoceros.
- Experience with geotechnical investigation techniques and interpretation of results.
- Familiarity with coastal data collection methods and analysis.
- Experience in performing thermal plume analysis or coastal morphology analysis will be considered a significant advantage.
- Codes and Standards:
- Thorough knowledge of relevant local (Malaysian) and international codes and standards related to geotechnical, coastal, and structural engineering design (e.g., Eurocodes, British Standards, American Standards, Malaysian Standards).
