Teleport is looking for a Director of Engineering to define the technology roadmap and drive on-time delivery in collaboration with the product team. This role requires strong leadership to motivate and scale the engineering team while ensuring alignment with short- and long-term technology goals. The ideal candidate should also have experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, QA automation, release management, and leveraging AI for engineering productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the technology roadmap in alignment with business objectives.
  • Work closely with product teams to ensure on-time delivery and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor a team of 35-50 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and innovation.
  • Define and track OKRs for the engineering team to drive measurable impact.
  • Collaborate with architects to design and implement next-generation scalable and cloud-native architecture.
  • Implement DevOps best practices, ensuring high availability, scalability, and efficient CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure adherence to observability best practices and monitor system performance effectively.
  • Set up and lead a QA automation team, ensuring end-to-end test automation and release stability.
  • Define and enforce release best practices to ensure smooth and risk-free deployments.
  • Leverage AI-driven tools and automation to enhance developer productivity and optimize workflows.
  • Stay hands-on with critical system components, providing technical leadership when needed.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in backend development, cloud-native architecture, and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB, Cassandra.
  • Exposure to Python (good to have).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native services.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
  • Proven ability to set up and scale a QA automation team with modern testing frameworks.
  • Experience in release management, ensuring smooth and risk-free software rollouts.
  • Ability to identify AI-driven automation opportunities to enhance engineering productivity.
  • Proven experience in leading mid-to-large engineering teams (35-50 members).
  • Strong strategic mindset to plan and execute both short-term and long-term technology goals.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience in the logistics or e-commerce domain is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
