Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Plastic Compounding Specialist to lead the development, optimization, and quality control of plastic formulations for various industrial applications. The candidate will be responsible for designing and improving polymer blends, additives, and compounding processes to enhance material performance and sustainability. This role requires expertise in polymer processing, material science, and compounding technologies to support the company’s production of high-quality plastic compounds from recycled and virgin materials. Key Responsibilities: 1. Polymer Formulation & Material Development - Develop and optimize plastic compounding recipes by selecting appropriate polymers, fillers, reinforcements, and additives. - Enhance material properties such as strength, durability, flexibility, flame retardancy, and thermal stability to meet customer specifications. - Research and integrate bio-based, biodegradable, and recycled materials into formulations to improve environmental sustainability. - Conduct material compatibility studies and ensure uniform dispersion of additives in polymer matrices. 2. Process Optimization & Production Support - Oversee extrusion, twin-screw compounding, blending, and mixing processes to achieve consistent material properties. - Optimize temperature, shear rate, and residence time in extrusion to prevent material degradation. - Troubleshoot production issues such as color variation, poor dispersion, contamination, or mechanical failure in compounded plastics. - Work closely with production engineers and machine operators to implement process improvements and reduce defects. 3. Quality Control & Testing - Develop and implement quality control protocols for testing melt flow index (MFI), tensile strength, impact resistance, and thermal stability of compounded materials. - Ensure all compounded materials comply with industry standards and customer requirements. - Collaborate with the R&D team to continuously improve material performance and consistency. 4. Sustainability & Recycling Innovation - Enhance the use of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled plastics in compounding. - Implement strategies for waste reduction, regrind utilization, and closed-loop recycling systems. - Research and develop compatibilizers and stabilizers to improve the processability of mixed recycled polymers. 5. Technical Leadership & Collaboration - Provide technical training to production staff on material handling and compounding best practices. - Work closely with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with material specifications. - Document technical reports, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and production guidelines. - Stay updated on emerging trends in polymer compounding, nanomaterials, and smart additives. Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Plastics Technology, or any related field. - Minimum 5 years of experience in plastic compounding, polymer formulation, or related fields. - Hands-on experience with twin-screw extrusion, blending, and pelletizing technologies. - Knowledge of plastic recycling technologies and sustainability strategies is a plus.
