Overall - To ensure a high standard of direct patient care. To communicate appropriately and clearly to matrons, co-workers and consultants. To demonstrate ability to assist consultants with procedures in labour and delivery, postpartum nursery unit. To undertake normal deliveries in the absence of the obstetrician, according to regulation. To demonstrate knowledge in obstetric care of patient including maternal and foetal monitoring. Identify and interpret readings and refer reports to obstetricians. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform a head to toe assessment, report the outcome to the paediatricians. To assist in receiving baby inside Operation Theatre on behalf of the paediatrician for LSCS cases. To participate in antenatal and postnatal teaching for patients in health maintenance of mother and baby. To assess, implement and evaluate care provided to meet individual patients’ needs and carry out nursing care as planned, such as: • Take vital signs, and foetal heart beat and routinely weigh patients. • Bed bath patients and assist them in post-delivery. Do basic care, change sanitary pads and post-natal patients. • Perineal swabbing and x-ray lamp. • Bed making. • Give out washing bowls to patients who cannot help themselves. • Admit patients and record particulars in record book. • Receive patients to delivery room. • Shaving for patients for operating procedures. • Send to and receive patients from operating room. • Record and maintain of intake/output. • Assist in setting up of I.V. infusion. • Linen control and proper storage of linen. • To provide a hot beverage to patient immediately after delivery if no contra-indication. To ensure all patients are treated with respect and courtesy, taking account of their customs, values and spiritual beliefs. To interact with customers/ patients and family in a caring and confident manner while maintaining customers/ patients confidentiality. To ensure that proper documentation is carried out on all procedures carried out on patients, doctors’ visits and request and patients progress on each shift. To carry out routine check that all equipment are in working order as per schedule. To assist subordinates to develop professional competence in accordance with their needs. To take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence. To ensure optimum infection control practice in unit. To carry out any other job function as directed by Head of Department/Company from time to time
