This role ensures the accuracy and reliability of measurement systems and instruments used in manufacturing and production processes. Key responsibilities include calibrating precision instruments, maintaining measuring equipment, and conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) to verify product compliance with specifications. The role involves close collaboration with metrology engineers and quality engineering teams to validate product dimensions, monitor quality, and ensure adherence to industry standards.

What will you be doing?

  • This role ensures the precision and accuracy of various measuring instruments and equipment used in manufacturing processes. Key tasks include calibrating micrometres, callipers, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and optical measurement systems according to the calibration schedule. The role also involves investigating and troubleshooting measurement discrepancies, performing necessary repairs, and liaising with external calibration service providers when required to maintain instrument reliability.

  • Additionally, the position requires close collaboration with quality assurance, engineering, and production teams to align measurement and inspection activities with production needs. The individual will be responsible for preparing and maintaining detailed reports on calibration status, measurement results, and corrective actions taken. Supporting internal and external audits by ensuring proper documentation of calibration certificates, First Article Inspections (FAI), and other compliance records is also a key responsibility.

  • Beyond technical duties, the role involves maintaining a well-organized inventory of metrology tools and adhering to 5S principles for equipment management. Compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies is crucial, including taking preventive actions against safety risks and environmental hazards. The individual will also be expected to report HSE incidents and contribute to continuous improvements in safety, efficiency, and sustainability practices.

What will you need to be successful?

  • The ideal candidate should have a diploma or equivalent in metrology, mechanical, or engineering technology, with strong English communication skills as an advantage. A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in metrology, calibration, or quality control within a regulated industry is preferred, with additional experience in the medical device manufacturing sector and knowledge of standards like ISO 13485, FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, and MDSAP considered useful. While no specific certifications are required, expertise in interpreting engineering drawings, applying measurement techniques, and proficiency in metrology instruments such as micrometres, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs is desirable.

  • Candidates should also have a solid understanding of calibration standards and measurement principles, including GD&T, ANSI, ASTM, and ISO standards. Familiarity with Microsoft Office for reporting and data analysis, along with strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, is preferred. The ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams is a plus. Additionally, the role may require extended periods of sitting or standing.
