1. CLINICAL PRACTICES • Handle, examine and treat small animals including domestic animals and reptiles • Perform consultation, diagnose illnesses and prescribe treatments for sick animals • Utilise current knowledge and clinical updates to determine nature of disease or injury and treats the patients surgically or medically including dressing wounds, setting fractures, and performing minor surgery, etc. • Provide preventive healthcare through vaccination, microchip, deworming, health testing and research • Manage and provide veterinary medical and surgical care through regular monitoring of the patient including recommending and ensuring necessary corrective actions are instituted when disease is found • Evaluate the nutritional needs of patients at all stages of their development and recommend corrective nutritional management • Update and discuss symptoms and treatments with pet owners • Administer treatments such as injections, medication, dressing, first aid, euthanasia duties, etc. • Carry out diagnostic tests such as radiography, blood and urine testing as part of the number database • Provide dental care and birthing care procedures and treatment to patients • Create your own system for follow up and appointments and write clear and concise medial reports for owner should they request • Generate paperwork for animals travelling abroad, as well as inserting identification microchips • Promote animal welfare through client education and preventative medicine • Supervise Veterinary Students and veterinarian in training and ensure proper training or review is carried out • Provide supervision to Veterinarians, Kennel Technicians, Kennel assistants, and Nurses, etc. • Responsible for recording and maintaining animal care history records & collecting specimens for examination on the Hospital charts and Rx-works Database • Provide a referral service for patient medical/surgical cases • Formulate a discharge plan (medication, respective diet, shampoo, etc.) and home care notes for pets being discharged. The instruction must be clear and documented on Rx-works Database 2. SURGICAL PRACTICES • Undertake surgical operations including neutering/spaying and general surgery • Perform all aspects of a veterinary surgical assistant such as intubation, intravenous catheter placement, surgical scrub procedures, surgical monitoring, dental prophylaxis, surgical recovery, etc. • Perform sterilization surgeries and other surgical procedures for patients • Examine animals’ pre-op to determine their ability to withstand surgery • Examine animals’ post-op as necessary to ensure appropriate healing • Perform surgical support and provide anesthesia, surgical and analgesic technical expertise/advice to surgery unit staffs and ensure euthanasia is performed correctly by the surgery staffs • Ensure to maintain a safe and efficacious medical protocol regarding anesthesia and surgery • Supervise post-op rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery • Oversees pre-op and post-operative care of animals brought into either surgical clinic for • Oversees the maintenance of surgical equipment’s and area 3. CUSTOMER SERVICES • Ensure excellent customer service is provided to the clients • Assists staff in situations requiring immediate problem solving. Promotes good public relations in accordance with Hospital practices • Advise pet owners about sanitary measures, feeding, behavior, breeding and general care to promote health of animals • Promote animal welfare through client education and preventative medicine • Represent the Hospital in a professional and courteous manner at all times • Clear client communication on a daily basis • Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put a staff, client, patient or the organization at risk 4. GENERAL DUTIES • Provide animal health care guidance to Clinical Care Unit staffs as when required • Document and write case reports for challenging cases • Maintain all appropriate patients’ records • Ensure compliance with all hospital rules & regulations and organizational protocol regarding animal care, treatment, advocacy and the mission of the Hospital • Follows all Clinical/surgical safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment • Inform the Directors of developments that may affect the Hospital or the department including departmental progress, client concerns and personnel issues • Undertake any other duties as may be directed from time to time by the Hospital Directors or Clinic/Hospital Specialist JOB REQUIREMENTS • At least a Diploma or Post Graduate Degree/Masters or Professional Degree in Veterinary Medicine / Animal Health/ Veterinary or equivalent • At least 1 - 3 year(s) of working experience in the related field. Previous experience of small animal veterinary would be an added advantage • Possess Veterinary License in good standing with the Malaysia Board of Veterinary Medicine • Good interpersonal relationship and communication skills • Diligent and very effective in completing tasks and duties • Meticulous, patient, compassionate and sensitive towards the needs of animals • Ability to make mature judgments KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS • Able to manage own time effectively • Possesses good surgical skills and enjoys a heavy surgical schedule. • Good decision-making skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • good hand-eye coordination • Keen observational skills • Ability to make sound clinical decisions • Ability to handle pressurized situations SELECTION CRITERIA • Must be able to work flexible hours and days • Able to work a variety of hours and shifts • At least 1 - 3 years of experience in veterinary practices and surgeries • A minimum of two years post-graduation experience in small animal practice
