Summary The 3D Printer Designer and Operator is responsible for both designing 3D models and operating 3D printers to produce precise, high-quality prototypes, parts, and products. This role combines technical skills in 3D modelling and hands-on operation of 3D printers, covering all aspects of print preparation, production, quality control, and maintenance. The designer and operator will collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to bring digital designs to life in physical form. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - 3D Printer Operation and Management: -Set up, operate, and monitor 3D printers to produce parts and prototypes according to project specifications. -Load material, calibrate printers, and adjust settings to achieve desired print quality and consistency. -Perform regular monitoring to ensure the integrity of prints and promptly address any issue. 3D Modelling and Design: -Use CAD and 3D modelling software (e.g., SolodWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Blender) to create and optimize design for 3D printing. -Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop or refine 3D models based on specific requirements and printability. -Ensure models are print-ready, taking into consideration wall thickness, support needs, and structural requirements. Print Job Preparation: -Prepare files for printing using slicing software (e.g., Cura, PuraSlicer, Simplyfy3D) and select optimal parameters for quality and efficiency. -Conduct test prints to validate print settings and troubleshoot issues prior to full production. -Make adjustments to support structures, print orientation, and material selection as needed to ensure successful prints. Quality Control and Post-Processing: -Inspect printed parts to confirm they meet design specifications and quality. -Identify and address any print issues such as warping, layer separation, or under-extrusion. -Perform necessary post-processing tasks, such as support removal, sanding, or painting, to achieve the desired finish and functionality. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: -Conduct routine maintenance on 3D printers, including cleaning, recalibration, and part replacement. -Troubleshoot technical issues related to hardware, software, or materials, ensuring minimal downtime. -Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repair logs, and machine performance. Material Management: -Track and manage material inventory, ensuring sufficient stock levels for upcoming projects. -Store and handle materials properly to maintain quality and prevent degradation. -Document material usage to help optimize production costs and reduce waste. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: -Work with the R&D and engineering teams to refine designs for improved manufacturability. -Stay informed about industry advancements in 3D printing, materials and techniques. -Experiment with new settings, techniques, or materials to improve print quality and efficiency. QUALIFICATIONS: - 1. Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field preferred 2.Hands-on experience operating 3D printers and creating 3D models. 3. Proficiency in CAD software and slicing programs compatible with the specific 3D printers in use. 4. Strong 3D modelling skills in software like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, or Blender. 5.Proficiency in slicing software, such as Cura or Simplify3D, and a strong understanding of print settings and parameters. 6.Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and consistency in printed products. 7.Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common 3D printing issues. 8.Experience with various 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS) and knowledge of different materials. 9.Basic knowledge of post-processing techniques to achieve desired finishes. 10.Familiarity with rapid prototyping, product design, or manufacturing processes.
