Sr Tech Specialist - Engineering IM - Shell Malaysia

The SEAM organization integrates Safety, Environment, and Asset Management activities across a broad geographical footprint, supporting Shell’s global business and assets. Technical Asset Operations (TAO), a key component of SEAM, accelerates the delivery of the Shell Performance Framework, helping Shell achieve its potential in Chemicals and Products (C+P), Integrated Gas/Renewables and Energy Solutions (IGRES), and Upstream. TAO provides high-quality, cost-effective technical resources that support Shell sites remotely while being integral to asset teams, delivering value through end-to-end AMS work processes. TAO teams are in Chennai, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Krakow.
The Sr Technical Specialist – Engineering IM role is responsible for developing and maintaining standardization, best practices, quality, and continuous improvement within the Asset IM domain. This role requires strong integration with other Data/Digital/Engineering IM Specialists within the TAO Delivery Operations Teams.
What’s the role?
- Define and support TAO-Asset delivery teams in establishing standard Engineering Data Management frameworks, processes, procedures, standards, and best practices within Asset IM.
- Assist operational delivery teams in setting performance metrics for 1D/2D/3D scopes as part of the overall IM and MIDS process.
- Identify and lead strategic quality improvement initiatives within the 1D/2D/3D domains.
- Support the development and maintenance of the Project Management Framework, IM Management guide, models, solutions, and best practices for both Asset and Project IM.
- Enhance the effectiveness of Asset IM activities by enabling execution teams in the Engineering IM space.
- Establish partnerships, governance, and delivery model structures within the business.
- Implement the business IM strategy and operationalize the delivery of the Information Management plan.
- Influence a wide range of processes and disciplines by designing fit-for-purpose Information Management solutions and overseeing their delivery, specifically focused on Asset IM.
- Ensure compliance with IM standards, manuals, data privacy, and other IM-related laws and regulations, while coaching others to comply.
- Support the development and execution of IM strategies, roadmaps, and plans to meet business needs and enhance IM maturity.
- Contribute to building the IM capability pool within TAO by implementing structured development programs encompassing process, digital, and future-ready capabilities.
- Drive the application of Shell MIDS/IM/Data standards to deliver Asset Information requirements within Capital Projects & Operations teams, enabling value drivers for the Asset.
Consultancy/Subject Matter Expert (SME):
- Act as an SME by providing guidance on the application of fit-for-purpose standards and best practices.
- Assist in defining and agreeing on the IM plan for the business in alignment with key stakeholders, including MIDS, Projects, ORCSU, Asset, and TAO.
- Support the IM Process Assurance role by identifying shortcomings and inconsistencies in processes and work activities.
- Establish benchmarks to measure the health of Engineering IM in the Assets and propose data quality optimizations that drive business value.
- Enable business value delivery through innovative IM solutions and existing IM assets, ensuring that business Information requirements are met.
- Act as an effective business partner to support the Information Management strategy in Business/Assets.
What do we need from you?
- University Degree in an Engineering discipline with over 12 years of experience.
- Extensive experience in Shell’s Asset Information Management, including Shell processes, Engineering Data Management, and standards/frameworks such as MIDS and IM standards.
- Proficient in Shell Discipline and Industrial standards, including DEP, DEP-EIS DEM1/2, JIP33, ISO14224, and CFIHOS.
- Broad knowledge of engineering data, including spare parts processes and maintenance management system builds.
- Experience with Engineering databases and IM applications such as Engineering Data Warehouse and Electronic Document Management systems.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and build a global network.
- Proven track record and experience in Asset IM.
- IM Technical Authority Level 3 (TA3) accreditation.
- Experience in Agile Project Management.
- Committed to implementing sustainable, standardized, and robust Engineering IM processes.
- Proven track record in Asset and/or Project leadership.
