Job Duties

A. Administrative

1. Oversees the overall performance of the hospital operations after operational hours in the absence of Heads of Department.

2. Allocates beds for inpatient admissions

3.Provides clinical supervision, leading and coaching nursing staff in performing related work

4. Provides constructive feedback to nursing staff as appropriate

5. Review of policies and procedures related to the operations of the department

6. effective coordination and leadership skill in solving operational problems

7.Provides immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to appropriate manager, director or administrator-on call

8.Responds to emergency situation and assists as necessary

9.Maintains personal training records

10. Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing

B. Clinical

1. Assists the Director of Nursing in facilitating and implementation of operational strategies

2.Directs, supervises and coordinates nursing services in the absence of respective ward and OPD Nurse Manager

3. Monitors nursing practice and assures compliance with policies and procedures including regulatory and accreditation standards

4.Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care plan within the rehabilitation setting

5. Acts as a resource person for the team to provide guidance and supervision as appropriate

C. Resource Management

1.Reviews staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff

2. Maintains appropriate and safe staffing levels and skill mix

3. Obtains materials or supplies from the main stores for patient care after hours

4.Provides timely feedback to staff on their performance and communicates to the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing to be used as part of performance evaluation.

D. Facilities Management

1. Ensures adequate facilities and equipment are available

2.Ensures correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information

3.Ensures a safe and clean working environment in compliance with healthcare procedures and regulations

E. Quality Assurance Program

1. Responsible for ensuring provision of high quality care within the department

2.Works with Director of Nursing, Quality Department and Medical staff to initiate, monitor and evaluate quality indicators within the department

3. Participates and supports quality improvement programs as appropriate

4.Reports emerging risks, incidents, accidents, injuries and work-related illness

F. Training

1.Identifies education and training needs and communicate to the Nurse Manager or Nurse Educator

2.Collaborates with Nurse Educator in developing appropriate skill competencies to ensure safe and standardized nursing practice

G. Service Delivery

1. Leads the staff in setting work and service delivery standards that meet the customer expectations and best practices

2. Implements process improvement initiatives to enhance the service delivery standards of the department

3. Provides exemplary patient/customer service throughout organization.

4. Resolves patient complaint according to established complaint management process

Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities (including licensure, certification and other job-related credentials)

Education / Professional Qualifications

· State Registered Nurse recognized by the Malaysian Nursing Board

· Post Basic Certificate preferred

· BLS / ACLS preferred

· BSc / MSc in Nursing preferred (or equivalent Masters in Healthcare related field)

Professional Experience

· Experience in nursing leadership in a hospital environment

· Able to work independently

· Good analytical and problem-solving skills

· Good knowledge of written and spoken English

· Strong organizational skill

· Strong interpersonal skills an emotional intelligence

· Minimum 2+ years of management experience
