[Job purpose]:

The Finance Manager executes the financial functions, ensuring the financial health, sustainability, and efficiency of the organisation. This role is responsible for managing financial operations, strategic planning, grants compliance, payroll, vendor relations, internal controls, and risk management. Additionally, the Finance Manager plays a key role in improving communication between Finance, management, and other departments, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

As a small, mission-driven non-profit, the Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial functions of the organisation. With a proactive, creative, and curious approach, the Finance Manager stays engaged with Fugee’s activities and programmes to develop effective operational processes and provide necessary financial data and insights. By streamlining operations, coordinating financial goals with organisational objectives, and mitigating financial risks, the role ensures long-term stability and compliance while supporting the organisation's mission to provide education for refugees.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Financial Management, Record-Keeping & Compliance Accurately record and maintain financial transactions, ensuring data integrity in general ledger accounts. Perform budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, expense tracking, reimbursements, and bank reconciliations. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, donor requirements, and internal controls while mitigating financial risks.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare accurate financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss reports. Analyse financial data to identify trends, costs, revenues, and obligations. Develop financial reports for management and stakeholders, providing insights for informed decision-making.
  • Auditing, Compliance & Risk Management Conduct routine and annual audits, ensuring adherence to financial reporting standards and accounting procedures. Prepare tax returns and maintain compliance with tax regulations. Implement risk management strategies to safeguard organisational assets and financial stability.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Advisory Support Assist in developing and managing departmental and organisational budgets. Perform financial forecasting and analysis to support long-term financial planning. Provide insights on cost-saving opportunities, resource utilisation, and tax strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Financial Communication, Training & Cross-Department Collaboration Improve financial communication across departments by developing user-friendly reporting tools and dashboards. Provide financial training and guidance to staff on policies and procedures. Collaborate with fundraising teams to align financial planning with organisational goals and ensure smooth financial operations.
