Wine Connoisseur – Job Directions Position Overview: The Wine Connoisseur (also known as a Sommelier or Wine Specialist) is responsible for curating, recommending, and serving wines that enhance the guest dining experience. This role involves expert knowledge of wine regions, varietals, pairing techniques, and storage, along with the ability to educate guests and staff on wine culture. Key Responsibilities: 1. Wine Selection & Pairing: • Recommend wine pairings based on guests’ meal choices and preferences. • Curate a balanced wine list representing various regions, styles, and price points. • Stay current with wine trends, vintage releases, and seasonal options. 2. Guest Experience: • Guide guests through the wine list and assist in selecting wines that suit their taste. • Offer tasting notes and educate guests on wine history, regions, and production methods. • Provide an engaging, elegant, and personalized service. 3. Inventory & Cellar Management: • Oversee the wine cellar, ensuring optimal storage conditions for different varietals. • Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory, and manage ordering and restocking. • Maintain accurate records of purchases and vintage changes. 4. Staff Training & Collaboration: • Train front-of-house staff on wine service etiquette, pairing recommendations, and wine list knowledge. • Collaborate with chefs to create food and wine pairing menus or tasting events. • Support team members in delivering a cohesive, upscale dining experience. 5. Tasting Events & Promotions: • Organize and host wine tastings, dinners, and promotional events. • Build relationships with wineries, distributors, and vendors. • Educate guests and VIPs on special vintages, rare labels, and limited releases. Required Skills & Qualifications: • Formal wine training or certification (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, CMS). • In-depth knowledge of global wine regions, grape varietals, and winemaking processes. • Exceptional palate and tasting ability. • Strong communication, storytelling, and customer service skills. • Experience working in high-end dining or hospitality environments. • Attention to detail and passion for hospitality and wine culture.
