The Business Development and Partnerships teams at Shopee are dynamic and energetic. The teams are always looking to acquire business opportunities to drive Shopee to be the No. 1 e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. The aim of the Business Development and Partnership teams is to provide Shopee’s buyers with a wide variety of product listings at the best prices.

About the Team:
This role supports the planning and execution of high-stakes communications tied to Shopee’s brand reputation, internal alignment, and stakeholder trust. The Senior Associate will help manage internal and external communications related to crisis, corporate risk, regulatory and government-linked issues, and other reputation-sensitive topics.

Working closely with internal departments, Sea GA, Legal, and the CEO’s office, this person will draft strategic messaging, monitor sentiment, and ensure Shopee communicates clearly, credibly, and consistently — especially during sensitive or high-impact moments.
Job Description:
Strategic & Crisis Communications
  • Develop and implement results-driven corporate PR strategies to enhance Shopee’s brand presence across business verticals, including ShopeeFood and other operational teams
  • Align PR initiatives with business goals, ensuring measurable impact on brand perception and awareness
  • Support the development and rollout of comms during issues or crises (e.g. platform incidents, seller/public backlash, gov-linked events)
  • Draft and align holding statements, FAQs, leadership updates, and internal announcements
  • Work with internal teams to mitigate negative press and ensure consistent messaging;
  • Act as a key liaison for media inquiries and reputation management efforts.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Sea GA, CX, and any other relevant stakeholder within the business including senior management as needed, for narrative approval and alignment

    Corporate Reputation & Thought Leadership
  • Develop external-facing narratives to support Shopee’s trust and reputation goals (e.g. Shopee Rai Lokal, Shopee Gives Back)
  • Draft op-eds, thought leadership content, and stakeholder Q&As on strategic initiatives
  • Support reputation-linked media engagement with key media partners

    Internal Comms
  • Craft internal announcements on sensitive or business-critical matters (e.g. org changes, seller fee updates)
  • Support leadership messaging and comms cascades during high-impact periods

    Monitoring & Issue Flagging
  • Track media and social sentiment on emerging issues (in collaboration with CX or agency)
  • Identify potential comms risks and propose mitigation messaging
  • Maintain crisis SOPs, media response templates, and comms playbooks

    Reporting & Analysis:
  • Monitor PR campaign performance and provide data-driven insights to optimize future initiatives;
  • Prepare reports and analyses to present to senior management, ensuring transparency in PR effectiveness;
  • Track media coverage and sentiment to evaluate Shopee’s public perception.

    Other matters
  • Media relations - manage for strategic corporate topics and preventive crisis management
  • Administrative & coordination scope -
    • Coordinate with PR agency on content requests, response prep, and retainer deliverables
    • Track comms-related costs, support budgeting and invoice processing for external vendors
Requirements:
  • 4–6 years of experience in Corporate Comms, Crisis Comms and/or Strategic Comms
  • Strong writing and narrative development skills — across internal, media, and cross-functional formats
  • Able to work under pressure and manage sensitive information with discretion
  • Experience working with legal/compliance and media stakeholders preferred
  • Familiarity with social listening tools and basic comms tracking/reporting
  • Proven track record in developing data-driven PR strategies and measuring impact.
  • Strong experience in managing PR agencies and multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in analytics and basic presentation tools (Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Docs)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field
