Purpose of Role

  • Provide risk engineering / loss control services for Chubb Insurance underwriting operations in Malaysia, and globally when required.
  • Identify risks and exposures associated with property insurance policy coverages in accordance with Chubb standards.
  • Provide value added risk engineering services to clients of Chubb.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Undertake loss control / risk management activities in accordance with Chubb guidelines.
  • Complete assessment of risk to insured properties (i.e. fire, natural perils etc.) for internal and external customers based on Chubb standards. This may include :-

(i) Physical site surveys including surveys for tariff, self-rated, special rating and large & specialized risks

(ii) Review of information provided by third parties;

(iii) Information collected from internet, subscriptions to loss preventation standards, phone / video calls, and site meetings with external customers.

  • Liaise with Rating Committee on issues related to fire tariff
  • Technical support and leadership to less experienced risk engineers and Chubb underwriting staff.
  • Account management, including scheduling and monitoring of site visits, quality assurance, and development of relationships with customers.
  • Remain abreast of current loss control and engineering best practices, including identifying emerging risks and claims trends.
  • Work in conjunction with others on special projects to improve process efficiency and enhancement of services.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in a designated area.
  • Marketing of Chubb Risk Engineering Services.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Engineering or physical science degree or diploma with post-degree work experience, preferably involving property insurance risk engineering or engineering roles at industrial operations, facility maintenance, fire engineering / fire protection system design or building compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a technical issue, summarize any findings and identify any corrective action required.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and spoken English language skills are essential.
  • Good technical report writing skills. The ability to write clearly and concisely is essential.
  • A willingness to travel to service client locations throughout Malaysia, and further afield if required.

  • At least 5 years insurance industry experience in risk engineering / loss control.
