Background:

Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre (TRCRC) was established in 2012 to restore tropical rainforests and address the critical rate of biodiversity loss in Malaysia. TRCRC’s Mission is twofold: to preserve tropical rainforest plant species and lead landscape wide protection and reforestation projects throughout the country.

TRCRC plans to reconnect forest fragments through the reforestation of degraded patches using native trees sourced from nurseries as well as seedlings from rescued threatened plants. It serves two important national conservation policies: ex-situ conservation for the preservation of plant species and genetic diversity under the National Biodiversity plan, and the Heart of Borneo and Central Forest Spine initiatives, to support Malaysia’s commitments towards conservation.

Overview:

We are seeking a creative and strategic Senior Communications Coordinator to lead our communications and outreach efforts. The Senior Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy to raise awareness of our conservation work, engage with stakeholders and restoration actors, and support fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, public relations, and digital media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the communication team for the Seed to Tree project including key human resource and administrative responsibilities.
  • Working closely with Seed to Tree Project Manager, Grant Coordinator, and Seed to Tree Technical Lead to drive the effective and successful implementation of the project communication deliverables.
  • In collaboration with the technical team, develop and deliver stakeholder engagement plans in accordance with overarching stakeholder engagement strategy.
  • Manage stakeholder mapping, prepare communications to stakeholders and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Lead day-to-day delivery of stakeholder engagement including research, drafting content for various communications materials such as informational materials, website, newsletters, social media campaigns, reports and policy briefs and support responding to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Support in identifying potential project partners and associated proposal development including drafting text and helping to coordinate submission of proposals, case studies and presentations.
  • Arrange and attend stakeholder meetings and ensure feedback of stakeholder responses and requests are responded to within agreed timelines
  • Lead the preparation of workshops, roundtables and event logistics including developing agendas, project plans, minute-taking and production of reports.
  • Ensure accurate audit trail maintained of all stakeholder engagement and all contact/activities are recorded on stakeholder database.
  • Attend meetings, collaborative planning workshops and report on progress.
  • Support the development of quarterly and annual project reports.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across Malaysia and ASEAN for meetings, events, stakeholder engagements and outreach activities.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Natural ability to work and multi-task under pressure, respond quickly to changing situations in complex project environments, prepare responses/narrative quickly and clearly, and use personal initiative.
  • Excellent science communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills, articulate team player.
  • Effective relation building capabilities to maintain good relations with all departments and its staff, management, associates and funders.
  • Skilled in organising resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • In-depth understanding of the organisation, departments and its functions.
  • Organised; attention to detail with good analytical and presentation skills.
  • Self driven and motivated to problem solve independently, with a willingness to learn new skills and take ownership of roles given.
  • Broader project communications experience and skills desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to attend and contribute on outdoor field trips, generally enjoy being in nature and experiencing the great outdoors.
