Job Purpose

Strategise, manage and optimize the development and delivery of database services and service improvement to support business objectives

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8 to 9 years’ experience preferably in Database administration and platform technologies.
• Strong Java programming skills, Spring framework, Struts framework, Spring Boot, JavaScript framework like jQuery, Linux Shell Script, and RDBMS not limited to Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Experience in Linux and has basic shell scripting skills.
• Experience in API development (API endpoint specification, API gateway), Kafka, Microservices, and Database design.

Key Responsibilities

a) Database Planning & Support

• Database Design and Management: Lead the design of databases for both on-premise data centers and cloud environments, ensuring ease of management and monitoring.
• Enterprise Database Strategy: Oversee the strategy and service delivery for new system builds on cloud and migration projects from traditional on-premise systems.
• Database Management and Support: Manage and support various databases (Oracle, Microsoft SQL, DB2, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL), including installation, upgrades, performance tuning, and automation of repetitive tasks.
• Performance and Capacity Planning: Handle performance planning, capacity planning, continuity planning, and implementation of security controls for databases.
• Optimization and Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and gaps, recommend and develop improvements in database operations, processes, and capabilities, and share information with management.

b) Operation Support & Implementation of Controls

• Documentation and Standards: Prepare checklists, documentation, procedures, and operational manuals for both relational and non-relational databases to ensure effective planning, control, and operational standards.
• Technology Evaluation and Implementation: Research, evaluate, design, test, and recommend new or updated IT software or services, analyze their impact, and provide technical and managerial expertise for management tools.
• Incident Management: Manage and coordinate operational incident management and reporting, acting as a subject matter expert for complex database-related incidents, problems, and security issues.
• Service and Change Requests: Manage and implement service and change requests from internal and external users.
• Maintenance and Updates: Oversee license management, periodic preventive maintenance, database capacity, bug fixes, patches, and planned events to ensure high system availability.
• Vendor and Solution Evaluation: Conduct evaluations of database solutions, services, and vendors to ensure the use of best-in-class technologies and partners for Bursa Malaysia.
