Preamble

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable professional to represent our client, the University of York, UK, in Malaysia, to help fulfill its student recruitment objectives. The primary focus of the role will be carrying out the University’s recruitment activities in Southeast Asia, with the role based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Key responsibilities will include managing recruitment channels, promoting and developing brand awareness, enhancing and developing stakeholder relationships (agents, schools, partners, sponsors), assisting in identifying and developing market opportunities, and executing conversion strategies.

This position involves frequent interaction with the University staff, and we are looking for a dynamic, driven and adaptable candidate with recent experience working in student recruitment or an international business/marketing role. The post-holder will be expected to travel extensively including to other Southeast Asian markets (30-40%), including weekends and during unsocial hours. You will be one of two representatives based in the region and will be supported closely by both the University and Grok Global staff.

Job Description

  • Play a constructive and proactive role in the implementation of the University’s international student recruitment and conversion activities in Southeast Asia;
  • As guided by the International Recruitment Manager and Regional Manager, devise and execute an annual plan of recruitment activities for the Southeast Asian markets, ensuring that costs are kept within the assigned budget;
  • Represent and promote the University at online/offline recruitment and conversion events for Southeast Asian markets, provide advice and guidance to prospective international students, offer-holders, and their advisers, offer guidance on courses, entry requirements, and application processes, collect accurate leads;
  • Visit source institutions such as schools, colleges, and universities to promote the University to prospective international students and other stakeholders;
  • Guided by the International Recruitment Manager to provide support to student recruitment activities, for example, business trips to attend recruitment events or attend webinars;
  • Maintain and develop relationships with agents, schools, colleges, sponsors universities, the University of York alumni (in collaboration with the University Alumni team) and other stakeholders;
  • Support with the relationship management of academic and other partnerships in Southeast Asia;
  • Liaise with colleagues at the University to progress applications and ensure a quick and efficient turn-around of enquiries and applications;
  • Assist in evaluating the outcomes/impact of recruitment and conversion activities for the Southeast Asia markets, monitoring statistical and trend analysis on a regular basis to inform decision-making;
  • Support internal stakeholders such as academic departments and Marketing with advice, information, and practical assistance in relation to market-specific and culturally appropriate recruitment activities and marketing communications;
  • Gather market intelligence and identify recruitment and new product development opportunities for the University to grow its business from the Region;
  • Contribute to the content production for the University’s regional social media accounts; and
  • Coordinate visits and itineraries for University staff visiting the market as directed by the International Recruitment Manager or Regional Manager.

Person Specification

Essential

  1. The successful applicant will be qualified to degree level, with a degree obtained from an international University (preferably in the UK);
  2. 2-4 years of experience or equivalent in a role related to education or international education, with an emphasis on recruitment;
  3. Fluency in English and Malay, both written and verbal;
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to act as an ambassador for the University;
  5. Computer literate with strong data analysis skills;
  6. Excellent communicator, able to influence others;
  7. Problem-solving and multitasking skills;
  8. Rich knowledge of social media and digital marketing and their use in the market;
  9. Able to travel throughout the region independently for extended periods;
  10. Results driven with enthusiasm and passion for the role;
  11. Ability to show initiative;
  12. Strong customer service skills; and
  13. Workload and time management skills, meet deadlines.

Desirable

  1. Previous knowledge/experience of the UK education system;
  2. Graduate of a UK University; and
  3. Postgraduate qualification
