Team and Role Introduction

A Server Operations Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of an organization's server infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the availability, performance, security, and scalability of servers to meet the company's IT and business requirements. The Server Operations Engineer collaborates with various teams to ensure smooth server operations, troubleshoots issues, and implements best practices for server management.

Responsibilities

• Server Deployment and Configuration: Deploy new servers based on project requirements, ensuring proper hardware and software configuration. Configure server hardware settings, BIOS, RAID arrays, and network settings. Install and configure operating systems, drivers, and essential software.
• Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor server health, performance, and availability using monitoring tools. Perform regular maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, and security fixes. Identify and rectify hardware and software issues to minimize downtime.
• Performance Optimization: Analyze server performance metrics and identify areas for improvement. Optimize server performance by adjusting resource allocation, load balancing, and tuning configurations.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls. Ensure servers comply with industry standards and regulations, such as GDPR or HIPAA.
• Backup and Disaster Recovery: Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data. Test and validate disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Automation and Scripting: Create and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks, server provisioning, and configuration management. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles for server deployment and management.

Requirements/Qualifications(must have)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as a Server Operations Engineer or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of server hardware, operating systems (Linux, Windows), and virtualization technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and configuration management.
• Experience with monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Puppet, Ansible).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and compliance standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate) are advantageous.

Requirements/Qualifications(good to have)

• Cross-cultural and international work experience
• Experience working with Alibaba or an in-depth understanding of Alicloud;
• Experience in managing teams of around 10 people.
