Position Summary:

This role is responsible for the recruitment, well-being, development, engagement, retention, and support of our Malaysia based consultants . This is a hands-on role which works closely with our Asia Flexible Talent client solutions team and our Global Managed Teams business to hire and align consultants with the right client opportunities; and ensuring best practice recruitment, employment and contracting practices are followed.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Resourcing

  • Attracting and recruiting high performing paralegals, lawyers and consultants (“consultants”) in Malaysia including:
  • Screening, shortlisting and interviewing secondees and managing selection and application processes
  • conducting due diligence, reference checks, and additional background screening on suitable candidates
  • Posting and refreshing advertisements on relevant job portals and managing timely correspondence with applicants
  • Meeting targets for lawyers prequalified, employed and “benched” consultants
  • Co-ordinating and preparing recruitment paperwork including offer letters and extension documentation
  • Proactively leveraging various platforms, including job boards, social media, referrals etc to attract suitable talent for the Malaysia consultant team
  • Building and maintaining effective talent pools of potential consultants – ie ensuring Malaysia has an appropriate mix of consultants to meet regional and global business demands with the right skills, seniority, availability and cost.
  • Negotiating offer process, including salary negotiation with suitable consultants
  • Preparing and updating Malaysia consultant profile marketing documentation.
  • Working with the Singapore Head of People & Development and wider P&D team to support and cultivate strategies to ensure we are recognised as an “employer of choice”, and our consultants are “ambassadors” for LOD
  • Updating all reports, tools and resourcing spreadsheets for our Malaysia consultant pool and ensuring all applicants, HR information and recruitment stages are recorded in the CRM tools and other relevant databases as appropriate in a timely manner.

People Engagement, Development, Retention

  • Being the first point of contact and ‘sounding board’ for Malaysia based consultants to address any logistical queries or assignment issues
  • Issuing employment and engagement documentation (including, if engaging independent contractors, independent contractor documents) for Malaysia based consultants, including assignment extensions
  • Providing HR-related support and advice to Malaysia based consultants relating to leave entitlements, remuneration reviews, diversity, performance management, wellbeing etc.
  • Diarising and conducting regular feedback sessions with the HQ team throughout assignments, including conducting end of assignment feedback sessions.
  • Exploring development opportunities for Malaysia based consultants, ie. through assignment growth opportunities or CLEs.
  • Driving the Malaysia based consultants care process for the region team, including regularly checking in with those consultants when on and off assignment, and become a sounding board for them while on assignment.
  • Working with the region People & Development team to develop and implement retention/engagement and culture strategies to support our Malaysia based consultants.

Compliance

  • Ensuring Malaysian regulatory compliance, including ensuring all lawyers have the required legal practice status, current practice certificates and (where appropriate) necessary immigration status.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Responsible for delivering the approved Malaysia yearly resourcing plan
  • Increasing LODs presence in the Malaysian market
  • Continuation and development of initiatives to support consultant lifecycle at LOD.
  • Building and maintaining the available consultant talent pool for Malaysia to ensure assignment utilisation
  • Maintain up to date information in our people recruitment and management systems
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with the Asia Middle East region HQ team, legal and compliance professionals in the Malaysia market.
  • Be a trusted HR advisor to the business.

Qualifications/Key Skills Required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in human resources, law or business
  • Demonstrated experience in similar role, ideally a minimum of 6 years’ experience in a professional services or legal recruitment related business in Malaysia
  • Self-motivated, positive, organised and detail orientated and able to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, MS Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Empathetic, agile, strong communications skills and the ability to get along well with others in a small team
