Job Description
To assist the Station Chemist in the control of the chemical processes, conducting various analysis on water / steam, monitoring work on plant and procedures that ensure safe and effective operation of the Facility and to fully comply with all relevant environmental and safety legislation.
Key Task
- Ensure that the plant is operated within the water and steam parameters laid down by the OEMs and advise the Station Chemist of any deviations.
- Ensure Water Treatment Plant (WTP) production availability to Operations Department.
- Ensure Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) for wastewater discharge according to Standard B (DOE).
- Ensure the scrubber operation (CePSO) and its maintenance in best practices accordingly to DOE.
- Ensure that the highest safety standards apply at all times.
- Ensure environmental issues are within laid down procedures and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Responsible to the Station Chemist for the reliable, safe and efficient operations of the chemical processes.
- To have sufficient technical knowledge of all chemical systems and related plant processes such that the plant is operated in a safe and efficient manner and emergencies are dealt with expeditiously.
- To safeguard the environment by a programme of regular measurement thus maintaining discharges to land, air and water at a minimum and within the specifications laid down by law.
- To act as a Selected Person to provide Gas Free Certificate (AGTs) and Authorized Entrant & Standby Person (AESP) in compliance with the Safety Rules.
- To act as a Certified Environmental Professional in the Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems - Physical Chemical Processes (CePIETSO-PCP).
- To act as a Certified Environmental Professional in Scrubber Operation (CePSO).
- To act as a Certified Environmental Professional in Schedule Waste Management (CePSWAM).
- Attend and contribute to scheduled station meetings.
- To undertake project work as directed by the Operations Manager and/or the Station Chemist.
- Ensuring that all Safety, Chemical and Environmental activities are carried out to the best International Quality Standards.
- Monitoring targets for continual improvements.
- Measuring, analysing and implementing corrective actions and safety audits.
- Systems thinking and a process approach to work, with emphasis on the needs of the customer, both internal and external.
- Support of and commitment to approved purchasing processes and procedures, maintenance of purchasing information and verification of purchased product.
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Certificate / Diploma in Applied / Analytical Chemistry or Mechanical / Engineering.
- Experience in 3 years in Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant operations & competence in Water Treatment Plant / Wastewater Treatment System and minor Facilities monitoring work.
- Experience in carrying out laboratory & site analysis and mechanical laboratory instrumentation work.
- Certified with CePIETSO-PCP, CePSO, CePSWAM are an added advantage.
