Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research on industry trends, sectors and companies and develop a point of view for funds.
  • Take investor pitch meetings with entrepreneurs, evaluate investments and track deal flow.
  • Assist to manage due diligence on potential investments which includes deal origination, market sizing, technology assessment, competitive landscape, financial valuation and modelling, negotiations and reference calls.
  • Deal structuring (i.e., legal and financial terms) and investment structure.
  • Together with Partners and Value Creation team, to assist and work with portfolio company management teams to regularly guide the growth of their business in achieving both financial and impact targets, serving as Board Observer for selected companies.
  • Assist to plan and execute divestment strategies.
  • Coordinate with Value Creation, ESG and Compliance teams to ensure targets are set, achieved and reported.
  • Contribute to Limited Partner/Investor engagement and PR/Comms strategy as needed.
  • Represent Gobi Partners at industry events and building relationships with the startup and investor ecosystem.

Location

  • Primarily based in Malaysia with travel required within ASEAN region for effective execution of responsibilities.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/ Finance/ Economics, qualified accountant or other relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role, ideally at a venture capital firm, investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or early to mid stage companies (Candidates with more experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Ability to analyse financial statements and construct financial and valuation models.
  • Interest in solving complex ESG issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and risk.
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong team working skills – relationship management, interpersonal, communication (both written and spoken), negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter with a sense of ownership.
  • Objective and structured thinker, with good judgement and quick learning capacity with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and integrity, even in the face of difficulties or challenging situations.
