We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Dance Teacher to lead an expansion of
Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar’s co-curricular Dance programme. Dance is entering an exciting phase at
the school with the overall aim for it to be firmly established as a vibrant and central part of our
co-curricular offering in Performing Arts, alongside Music and Drama. In the longer term we
would also like Dance to become an embedded part of the Physical Education curriculum offer.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the School’s co-curricular dance programme.
  • Inspire pupils to sign up to a range of Dance Classes and raise the profile and enthusiasm for Dance across the school.
  • Lead Dance classes as part of the activity programme which any pupils can sign up for. These classes are likely to be a mix of technical work and creating group pieces. These classes will also be a mix of different styles e.g. tap and contemporary.
  • Lead Dance-based sessions as part of the school’s Health and Wellness programme, for example Dancefit or Zumba style classes.
  • Plan and organise all Dance sessions, including attendance, booking of spaces and liaising with the CCA coordinator and Director of Expressive Arts to schedule Dance sessions into the co-curricular programme.
  • Design, plan and organise with the Director of Expressive Arts at least one large Dance Show each year, along with exploring options for smaller performance opportunities throughout the year.
  • Liaise with the Director of Drama, Director of Expressive Arts and Music leads to collaborate on productions that may require dance choreography.
  • Be the point of contact for pupils, staff and parents with an interest or query about the Dance programme.
  • Take a lead in the promotion and marketing of Dance Classes and Shows.
  • To design and lead the curriculum offered to pupils as part of the Physical Education programme.


Requirement

  • Degree or diploma in dance
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Dance training qualifications
  • Ability to create and teach original dance routines in a variety of dance styles that are both reflective of the culture at KTJ and beyond in the wider world.
  • Ability to teach the technicalities of dance on a one to one basis
  • Knowledge of the history and theoretical aspects of different dance styles.
  • Skills to manage a classroom, keep students focused, and maintain discipline.
  • Ability to organise own time effectively, to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form positive relationships with professionals, young people and their parents/carers
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young people
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
  • To be in school 3 days a week
