Job Role:

Working as part of the Global Bid Services team, the role shall support the design and estimation process for complex and high value bids for defined strategic and major opportunities across the business, working in support of the bid manager, entity General Managers, and Global Sales Manager, in alignment with their respective strategic plans.

The Estimator will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end bid process, working closely with AVTEL’s bid manager, senior bid estimator – APAC region, shared-services, engineering, and local sales/estimating teams to prepare and submit winning bids.

They will be significantly involved from the pre-qualification stage, through scoping and preparation to submission; and will remain involved at the handover stage of the bid process and the mobilisation phase of the operational delivery.

The role shall require strong coordination and planning skills, as well as a deep understanding of the end-to-end design and estimation process and proven ability in preparing bids for large opportunities across international markets. Ideally suited to a person with a blend of abilities including strong technical knowledge and commercial awareness with an aptitude for detailed analysis, methodical working, loyalty, teamwork, and customer focus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in bid assessments to determine whether these are in-alignment with AVTEL’s business strategies and if we can develop a commercially viable & successful submission (Go-No-Go Criteria).
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee all design & estimation activities including pre-bid assessment’s, compliance, take-offs, pricing, LSP scoping, bid reviews and submissions.
  • Oversee associated dependencies (internal & external) to ensure design & estimation activities are completed within the defined bid programme, and in compliance with company policy and standard procedures.
  • Assessing and addressing the technical design risks relating to the bid.
  • Collaborate with Bid Manager and Head of Engineering to ensure that agreed design and estimation processes and procedures are being upheld by shared services team.
  • Work in support of Local Service Providers and key suppliers to ensure that they fully understand the project brief including, scope of works, timeframes, compliances, and commercials terms & conditions. Assess that they are appropriately qualified to deliver the services and that their submissions are fully compliant with our requirements.
  • Negotiating (in-partnership with bid manager local procurement) with specialist suppliers and/or subcontractors to ensure we obtain best price and commercial terms.
  • Responding to design queries from clients’ and other stakeholders throughout the bid process.
  • Close collaboration with associated members of the sales team, shared-services, operations, engineering, vendor-partners, and the client representative to obtain the information required to complete the bid submission.
  • Hold regular reviews with the shared services team to review and prioritise key tasks and activities to ensure design & estimation activities are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Upon award, actively support the handover process to the respective operational delivery entity, to ensure they have a clear understanding of the bid submission including customer brief, scope of works, project timelines, commercials, and any known/identified risks.
  • Work in support of the delivery entity from handover through to completion of the project mobilisation phase including detailed design, project planning, mobilisation of LSP’s and customer communications.
  • Provide support relative to scope clarifications throughout the project life cycle.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Strong understanding of electronic security market, with up-to-date knowledge of AVTEL’s core product and service offerings.
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience of bid preparation in the security integration business with a clear understanding of the end-to-end design & estimation process and what drives successful bid submissions. With a strong emphasis towards fit-for-purpose and cost-effect solutions across an international customer base.
  • Commercially astute with a clear understanding of what drives gross margin.
  • Awareness of commercial business terms and conditions commonly used in the security industry.
  • Strong team member, collaborator, and self-starter.
  • Results focused, unrelenting focus on business outcomes.
