Job brief - Executive, Credit Control & Collection

We are looking for a reliable Executive, Credit Control & Collection to monitor, ensure prompt repayments of loans, leasing and other credit facilities and for recovery of non-performing loans. In the latter role, you will be primarily responsible for recovering debts owed in an expedient manner and within protocols.

You will primarily be liaising with lawyers and deal debtors in a professional manner, and accountable to internal stakeholders by way of credit reviews and reports.

This position can be stressful and difficult. As such, the incumbent will have to be polite and sensitive towards people while also remaining committed to their purpose and persistent, whilst acting in the interest of the company. Excellent communication skills and a sense of urgency are extremely useful to succeed in this task.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned accounts on a daily / weekly / monthly basis, keeping track to identify collectible accounts;
  • Contact customers to enquire of their payment status;
  • Generate and send loan payment reminders to customers;
  • Plan course of action to recover outstanding payments;
  • Negotiate payoff deadlines or payment plans;
  • To seek or recommend for Management’s approval the necessary action to obtain best recourse against debtors
  • Liaise with panel lawyers on legal proceedings against debtors,
  • Identify possible fraud cases and update and inform management;
  • Update account status and database regularly;
  • Highlight potential problematic accounts to superiors and management;
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting as and when requested by management;
  • Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Business or Accounting is preferred;
  • Proven experience in the area of credit control and collection will be a plus;
  • Proficient in MS Office and databases;
  • Able to work and meet targets under tight deadlines;
  • Possess legal knowledge of the litigation process
  • Knowledge of relevant legal requirements is preferred;
  • Excellent communication and people skills;
  • Proven skills in negotiating and persuasion;
  • Ability to be polite and compassionate without lacking confidence
