Job Overview:

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for promoting the health and well-being of employees in the workplace. This includes conducting health assessments, managing workplace injuries, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The OHN works closely with management and safety teams to reduce workplace health risks and create a healthy, safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Health Assessments:

  • Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and post-employment medical assessments.
  • Monitor and track the health status of employees through regular screenings (e.g., hearing, vision, and respiratory tests).
  • Assess employee fitness for duty and advise on work restrictions or accommodations where necessary.

Injury and Illness Management:

  • Provide first aid and emergency care for on-site injuries or medical incidents.
  • Manage cases of work-related injuries and illnesses, coordinating treatment, and overseeing rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records of workplace injuries, illnesses, and treatments.

Health and Safety Programs:

  • Develop and manage occupational health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with local regulations (e.g., OSHA or equivalent).
  • Conduct health surveillance for employees exposed to workplace hazards such as chemicals, noise, and ergonomic risks.
  • Provide input on workplace safety protocols and assist in implementing preventive measures.

Health Education & Promotion:

  • Conduct health education sessions and promote wellness programs on topics such as stress management, nutrition, physical activity, and disease prevention.
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle choices among employees to improve overall health and productivity.
  • Organize health campaigns such as vaccination drives, wellness check-ups, and screenings.

Health Surveillance & Risk Management:

  • Monitor workplace environments for potential health hazards, working with safety officers to minimize risks.
  • Participate in workplace safety audits and advise on health-related matters.
  • Identify trends in workplace health issues and recommend interventions.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements for occupational health (e.g., OSHA reporting, medical surveillance, etc.).
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate health records, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Prepare reports on workplace health trends and compliance for management and government authorities.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for health crises or workplace accidents.
  • Train employees in basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Coordinate with external healthcare providers for emergency services when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BN) or equivalent.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license or equivalent certification to practice in the region.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (e.g., COHN, COHN-S) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in occupational health or a related nursing field.
  • Knowledge of workplace health, safety regulations, and ergonomics.
  • Experience in emergency care, health education, and health risk assessment.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent clinical skills and ability to handle medical emergencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees and management.
  • Ability to assess health risks and develop preventive measures.
  • Proficiency in health record management and reporting software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

  • May require occasional travel to various company locations.
  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials or environments.
  • Physical ability to provide emergency care when necessary.

Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
