A Wintel Engineer will be responsible for leading and delivering hands-on server infrastructure for operation and project deliverable. Providing technical and tactical guidance to other team members. Developing and improving the automation of existing processes and IaaS platforms. Creating, documenting and implementing standards for new and existing systems.
A Wintel Engineer would be working largely autonomously on a range of server build (physical or VM or vPC), patching and acting independently to provide support and strategy of the server environment ensuring technology remains current and adapts with industry trends.


What you’ll be doing
• Coordinate and manage new / refresh servers (VM or physical) / vPCs build and perform a cutover to live
• Lead and deliver enterprise level Wintel patch, update, upgrade or server build / provisioning
• Evaluate new and emerging technologies to support business needs
• Increase our agility by developing build automation, faster and more flexible deployment techniques, powerful configuration management
• Identify and automate manual tasks and processes
• Advanced configuration and administration of Wintel servers
• Work with internal business partners to develop requirements and solutions
• Expand and evolve our infrastructure across dedicated hosted systems and cloud-based deployments
• Develop sophisticated and flexible monitoring services to highlight performance and availability issues
• Support and maintain production systems (including on-call cover where required)
• Adherence to ITIL standards and processes

• Strong Automation Skills essential
• Patch management skill sets
• Patch failure troubleshooting skill sets
• Patch success and failure reporting management (update and tracking)
• In depth knowledge of Wintel (multiple Windows versions) essential
• Experience supporting a LAMP environment (Wintel, Apache, MySQL, PHP) required
• Knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies, VMWare, vRealize required
• Knowledge of docker and container technology preferred
• Scripting languages, shell scripting, Perl, bash, Python, Javascript essential
• Infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, AutoYaST, Kickstart, BMC Bladelogic, vRealize, CA process Automation preferred
• Knowledge of ITIL processes required
• Highly proficient troubleshooting and support skills within virtual technologies essential
• Strong analytical skills required
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations is essential
• Being self-motivated and self-accountable for delivery and adherence to standards and delivery timelines is essential
