Who are we?

Mutant is a weird name for an agency, we know. We’d love to tell you there’s a cool reason for it - like being exposed to gamma radiation or being bitten by a spider - but alas, our origin story is a little less dramatic.

We started in 2012 as a PR agency, led by one individual with a simple idea - to grow an agency that focused on getting business results and removing agency fluff.

From these humble beginnings, we evolved into a regional agency with offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand servicing clients across Asia Pacific and globally for their PR, content marketing, and branding needs.

Are you the ONE we're looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Public Relations Associate / Consultant, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who will be responsible for planning and executing client communications strategies, across Mutant’s PR and Content teams.

You will be contributing to day-to-day client and project management, with a portfolio of technology and corporate clients across the B2B and B2C space. You will take the lead in proactively marketing Mutant Communications services, attend relevant networking opportunities, research and identify PR & and communications pitch opportunities to build a pipeline of leads, support business development proposals, and confidently present the recommended strategies to new clients.

What you’ll be doing:

• You’ll plan, implement, analyse, and optimise all PR activities from formulation through to execution, aligning them with the client’s key business objectives
• You’ll work closely with clients and Mutant’s content, brand & and PR teams to create aligned communications across all channels and to ensure both strong commercial and consistent brand messages
• Project management and strong execution to ensure all PR activities are delivered according to the client's budget and timelines, achieving established KPIs are your strong suit
• You’ll track and evaluate KPIs according to scope, and provide recommendations that are necessary adjustments to optimise overall effectiveness based on measurements
• You’ll combine creativity with knowledge of the media to recognise media angles and generate positive news coverage, profile pieces, and features across a broad media spectrum
• You’ll fully participate in brainstorms and creating workable programmes for new business and upsell existing clients
• You have established professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and the media.

What you need to be successful in this role:

• You have 1-2 years of experience in public relations in an agency environment.
  • Candidates with 3-4 years of experience will be considered for the Consultant role
• You’re a confident self-starter, able to drive conversations at the C-suite level
• You have a solid understanding of the issues and opportunities in the communications industry
• You have an excellent command of the English language and Bahasa Melayu or Chinese
• You’re meticulous and able to perform under pressure.
• You’re passionate about client management – maintaining a high client satisfaction level motivates you.
• You enjoy working collaboratively across different teams and being a mentor to juniors.
• You have a solid understanding of the media landscape.
• Existing relationships with journalists in Malaysia are advantageous.
