Design and Technology Teacher

Key Responsibilities:

Planning and Delivery of Lesson

• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that covers sustainable design and technology concepts, integrating topics such as sustainable living, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, resource management, and urban mobility.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
• Deliver engaging lessons that utilize a variety of instructional methods, including lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and digital tools.
• Create a stimulating learning environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
• Integrate concepts from various disciplines such as science, technology, engineering, geography, economics, and environmental studies to provide a comprehensive understanding of sustainable practices.
• Lead students through hands-on, project-based learning experiences that promote inquiry, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
• Design projects that encourage students to apply sustainable practices and innovative solutions.
• Utilise digital tools and platforms for research, simulations, and presentations.
• Guide students in the use of technology to develop and present their sustainable projects effectively.
• Teach students data literacy skills, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Guide the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for urban mobility and resource management studies.
• Foster a collaborative learning environment where students work in teams to develop sustainable solutions. Promote effective communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
• Encourage students to engage with local communities, policymakers, and experts to gain real-world insights into sustainable practices and urban planning challenges.
• Stay current with the latest developments in design, technology, sustainability education, and pedagogy. Attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions as required.
• Assist students who need extra help, such as tutoring, preparing and implementing remedial programmes.

Assessment and Evaluation

• Evaluate and grade students’ work and assignments
• Develop and implement assessment strategies that measure student progress, understanding, and skills in sustainability, design thinking, and technology.
• Provide constructive feedback and encourage reflective learning.

Classroom Management

• Establish and enforce rules of behaviour and procedures for maintaining order among students.
• Manage students’ behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour.

Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)

• Establish and maintain procedures to protect all students’ information and that the information is only used in relation to the work purposes.
• Ensure adherence to School’s PDPA policy for staff members in the team and also the external providers.

General

• Attend staff meetings, as required.
• Other tasks as necessary to support the Principal in overall departmental management.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology or a related field is required.
• Experience in coding is a significant advantage.
• Prior experience with Micro:Bit, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi will provide a significant advantage.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• A level of maturity consistent with the requirements of the position for independent work, initiative, and teamwork.
• Excellent communication skills. Able to communicate in a tactful and patient manner with parents, students and colleagues.
• Can be counted on to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity and confidentiality.
• Pleasant personality and able to develop a good working relationship with students, staff members and teachers.
