Sr Adv R&D Engr/Scientist – Materials and Process Specialist for Membrane Technologies

An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Sr. Advanced R&D Engineer / Scientist within Honeywell UOP’s Research and Development organization at Penang, Malaysia. This position focuses on accelerating the development and commercialization of breakthrough Gas Separation technologies to meet the rapidly expanding customer demand for decarbonization solutions, with specific emphasis on membrane-based technologies. This role will be accountable for supporting the development of breakthrough technologies as well as developing integrated solutions across UOP’s Hydrogen and Gas Processing technology portfolio with inorganic / partner technologies and incorporating technologies from other Honeywell businesses. The role will also be responsible for developing and commercializing materials that support our existing customers in transitioning to more energy efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support to drive New Product Development (NPD) programs to achieve our goals in the gas processing, CO2 Capture, and membrane platforms. This includes new materials and may include process development.
  • This role involves testing of commercial membranes to ensure on-spec materials are shipped to customers.
  • Lead and/or guide pilot plant experimentation and drive model-based design of experiments (MBDOE) approach to accelerate technology delivery and identify innovation opportunities
  • Build awareness of the competition and monitor new developments and lead projects to bridge gaps in the relevant technology areas.
  • Provide support to sales and sales support organizations to ensure technology offerings maximize customer value delivery as well as Honeywell value capture.
  • Identify novel solutions and author invention disclosures to contribute to the innovation effort at Honeywell UOP.
  • Act as a local and global mentor for other scientists / engineers.
  • Support Honeywell UOP’s Membrane Production Facility in managing trials such as new and/or localized materials, chemicals and polymers in efforts to improve costs/lead time of production.
  • Enhance lab tests to improve the current processes at the membranes production facility.
  • Support in conducting dye tests/studies on commercial membrane elements for improvisation efforts.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory
  • B.S. degree in material science, physics, chemistry, or chemical Engineering

We Value

  • 2+ years of experience in Research & Development
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Advanced degree (MS) in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Strong understanding of chemistry/chemical engineering fundamentals and application in process, polymer and /or membrane technology development
  • Experience in developing and executing experimental plans including the use of statistical tools for data analysis. Knowledge of Six Sigma concepts and their application in managing risk and uncertainty. Six Sigma green belt certification is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset in the application to technology development in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to develop & deliver high impact presentations both internally and externally including effectively managing the customer interface
  • Proficiency in developing networks & building relationships
  • Flexibility to work across cultures and time zones
  • The ability to travel both domestically and internationally approximately 10% of the time.
