Job Purpose:

The Data Center Facility Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operational integrity and availability of data center facilities. This includes managing the critical infrastructure, ensuring all systems are operating efficiently, and implementing preventive maintenance protocols. The role requires a strong focus on reliability, uptime, and adherence to best practices in data center operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Management:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of data center facilities, ensuring all systems (electrical, cooling, fire suppression, security) are functioning optimally.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of critical infrastructure to prevent downtime.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Operational Efficiency:
  • Monitor and analyze power usage effectiveness (PUE) and data center infrastructure efficiency (DCIE) metrics.
  • Implement energy-efficient practices and technologies to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
  • Optimize space utilization and capacity planning to support organizational growth.
  • Incident Management:
  • Respond promptly to facility-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and ensure team readiness for unexpected events.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a culture of safety by enforcing safety protocols and conducting training sessions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, incident reports, and facility performance metrics.
  • Generate regular reports on facility status, operational efficiency, and compliance for management review.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data center operations.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with IT, security, and other stakeholders to support data center projects and initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on facility-related matters during planning and implementation of new infrastructure.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration within the team and with external partners.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center facility management or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of critical infrastructure systems, including UPS, HVAC, generators, and fire suppression systems. Familiarity with industry standards such as Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, and NFPA.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification in data center management (e.g., CDCDP, CDCP) is a plus.


Working Conditions:

  • This role may require occasional weekend or after-hours work to support maintenance activities or respond to emergencies.
  • The position involves physical activities such as walking, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy equipment.
