Job Summary

This position will be fully based in Tenom, Sabah. To provide expertise in the design, analysis, and construction of tunneling projects. This position involves leading engineering efforts, managing project teams, and ensuring the successful project from conception to completion. This role collaborates closely with clients, stakeholders, authorities, subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver cost-effective solutions while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously evaluate and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental performance on the tunnelling project.
• With knowledge of the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) operation and execution.
• Manage all tunnelling activities, including managing the explosive, consumables, magazine storage and stock control to ensure safe, effective and smooth operations.
• Monitor and analyse tunnelling productivity, adjusting plans as necessary to achieve desired outcomes and optimize tunnelling progress.
• Ensure all materials and equipment on the site fully comply with technical specification requirements.
• Coordinate and liaise with clients and subcontractors on project schedules and maintenance-related matters to ensure smooth execution of site work.
• Coordinate with tunnel geologist to assess ground conditions and provide recommendations for appropriate tunnelling methods and support systems.
• Implement tunnelling designs and specifications, ensuring alignment with project requirements and site conditions.
• Supervise and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and tunnelling personnel, ensuring adherence to best practices and project standards.
• Prepare and present regular progress reports to project management and stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, site progress, challenges, and areas for improvement.
• To comply and adhere to all matters pertaining to Quality, Safety & Health and Environment related to the job scope and work place as required by the Company.
• Any other duties that will be assigned from time to time by the Management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a similar role, preferably involving NATM.
• Must be able to be based in Tenom, Sabah.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of both technical and operational aspects of tunnelling with a demonstrated competency in NATM.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor personnel, as well as manage stakeholder relationships, subcontractors and authorities. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Expected Minimum Years of Experience

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a similar role, preferably involving NATM.
