Job Purpose

Oversee care of neonates, pediatric and / or adult patients, under diverse range of admission to the Haematology and Oncology in—patient wards and out—patient department. Assist in management of patients in the wards under the respective primary consultants from Haematology and Oncology, carry procedures and discharges where consultant is not able to attend in time.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Function

A. Formulate and implement treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/ or attending back-up physician:

  • Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Inform / consults with designated primary supervising physician and/ or attending back-up physician regarding changes or deterioration of patient's condition. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient before arrival of physician. Obtain patient. health histories and complete physical examination / assessment of patients, interpretation of diagnostics test results, management of the airway, pharmacological management and emergency resuscitation when needed.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure to patient, patient's family and to communicate with the treating physician as needed.
  • Perform therapeutic or diagnostic procedures within the reasonable capability of a medical officer — based upon patient's clinical status.
  • Prescribe medications (except chemotherapy and radiotherapy) within the reasonable capability of a medical officer and inform patients of all possible risks, complications and interference with other medications they may be taking.
  • Maintain updated patient's medical records that document all vital signs, evaluations (noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings), medications, treatments, allergies, test results and immediate resuscitation instituted into the Hospital Information System; in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Communicate with the family when requested by the treating physician regarding the changing health care needs of their infants, child or family members. Assess famil ada tation, co in skills and the need for crisis or other intervention.
  • Serve as Transplant Service Medical Officer role and supervised by Consultant Haematology Transplant to perform pre-transplant counselling, preparation of pretransplant clinical summary and post-transplant discharge summary, assist with donor search, verification typing and workup, daily transplant review, organization of pre-transplant workup, coordination of transplant referral from other hospital and organization of patient data (within the reasonable capability of a medical officer)

B. Achievement of patient's quality care, it is achieved by:

  • Execute hospital SOP in patient's care and good management skills in procedures. Demonstrate respect in verbal communication with patients.
  • Use standards of effective and professional communication among staffs and with other department
  • Anticipating customer feedbacks and incident report with appropriate answer. Following up patient's treatment management to assess outcome of care.

Administrative Function

A. Ensure safe and healthy environment by:

  • Ensure work procedures and technical specifications required by hospital are executed in accordance to hospital SOP.
  • Practicing health and safety regulation set by hospital (Personal Protective Equipment — PPE) and of international standards.
  • Adhering to the hospital infection control policy and procedure.
  • Provide proper education and counseling to staffs to avoid sharp injuries.
  • Institute urgent treatment and follow up to staffs who are expose to sharp injuries. Attending various training and talks to update the latest emerging diseases to maintain the working environment clean.

B. Provide support to the organization by:

  • Assist in the hospital's programme and activities such as giving health/medical talks, conducting medical check-up, assisting in blood donation campaign for public either on-site or off-site.
  • Stay abreast of medical and non-medical knowledge related to business and operation. Conduct training that is relevant to the division's service for department team members.
  • Participate and support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Participate in the development, review and evaluation of haematology, oncology and transplant medical management practice protocols within legal guidelines in compliance with hospital policies.

Job Requirements

  • Recognized Medical Degree from an accredited University Registered with Malaysian Medical Council (MMC)
  • Valid Annual Practicing Certificate : Attended life support courses like : ACLS, ATLS and etc.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years' experience in emergency care / acute care / ward management
  • Possess skills on all the procedures (Airway management, intravenous cannulation, blood taking, and catheterization)
  • Able to understand technical issues in medical field
  • Excellent communications skills, compassion
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Role model professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure.
