Overview

The Boarding House Parent will be responsible for the pastoral care, safety, and well-being of the boarders in the boarding house. They will be the primary point of contact for the boarders and their parents/guardians and will be responsible for ensuring that the boarding house runs smoothly and efficiently. This is a residential position, and the House Parent will be expected to supervise the students during weekdays and weekends.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing a safe and nurturing environment for the boarders, ensuring their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive and supportive atmosphere in the boarding house.
  • Managing the day-to-day running of the boarding house, including overseeing cleaning, laundry, and meal arrangements.
  • Ensuring that the boarders follow the rules and regulations of the boarding house and the school.
  • Maintaining accurate records of boarders' medical information, contact details, and any relevant information.
  • Ensuring that boarders have access to appropriate medical care and that any medical issues are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
  • Liaising with academic staff to ensure that boarders receive appropriate academic support.
  • Monitoring boarders' academic progress and communicating with parents/guardians regarding academic performance.
  • Organizing and supervising recreational activities and excursions for boarders.
  • Supporting and guiding boarders through any personal or emotional difficulties they may be experiencing.
  • Ensuring that boarders have access to appropriate pastoral care and support.
  • Managing any disciplinary issues that may arise, in consultation with the school's senior management team.
  • Ensuring that the boarding house is secure and that appropriate safety measures are in place.
  • Liaising with the school's senior management team, parents/guardians, and other relevant parties as required.
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Managing the budget for the boarding house in consultation with the school's finance department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Any level of education qualification is welcome.
  • Experience working in a boarding school or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good command of both written and spoken English.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to the school's ethos and values.
  • First aid and medical training would be advantageous.
