OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

This role primarily supports the PDG team by addressing their specific technology needs, with a focus on Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other educational technologies. The role ensures the PDG team’s digital operations are efficient and effective while contributing to the wider organization’s technology strategy.

MISSION FOR THE ROLE

The Technology Specialist will enhance the effectiveness of the PDG team by ensuring their technology requirements are met. The role will focus on LMS and Web App development that facilitates PDG's training and coaching programs, operations, UX/UI design, and fostering innovation. It will also act as a bridge between the PDG team and developers, ensuring seamless communication and implementation of technical solutions while providing empathetic support to non-tech-savvy users.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Support for PDG Team (80%)

  • LMS & Web App Development & Maintenance:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Learning Management Systems (LMS) tailored to the PDG team’s needs, with a strong understanding of the Malaysian education system and STEM education.
  • Handle backend work to ensure the smooth operation and functionality of the LMS and Web App that facilitate PDG's programs and operations, including troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • EdTech & Innovation:
  • Apply EdTech knowledge, particularly within the Malaysian education system and DELIMa context, to propose and implement technological improvements that enhance the PDG team’s training and coaching initiatives.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in educational technology, UX/UI design, and LMS best practices to drive innovation within the team.
  • Bridge Between Team & Developers:
  • Act as a liaison between the PDG team and external developers, effectively communicating the team’s needs and challenges.
  • Translate technical requirements into actionable tasks for developers, ensuring that solutions align with the team’s goals.
  • Automation & Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes within the PDG team, making workflows more efficient and reducing manual effort.
  • Implement and maintain automated systems that streamline operations and improve the user experience.
  • Training, Support & Event Assistance:
  • Provide training to PDG staff and teachers on using LMS, Web App, and other relevant technology tools, focusing on empathy for non-tech-savvy individuals.
  • Offer ongoing support and troubleshooting for any technology-related issues within the PDG team.
  • Provide tech-related support during PDG team events, both virtually and in person, ensuring smooth handling of all technological aspects.
  • Organisation-Wide Technology Support (20%)

  • IT Infrastructure Maintenance:
  • Assist in maintaining the overall IT infrastructure of the organisation, focusing on integrating the PDG team’s tools with broader systems.
  • Support organisation-wide technology initiatives in collaboration with the Technology Manager.
  • Software & Hardware Management:
  • Support the procurement, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software used across the organisation, focusing on systems that benefit the PDG team.
  • Provide occasional helpdesk support for broader organisational needs.
  • Policy & Procedure Development:
  • Assist in developing and maintaining IT policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s data protection and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Training & Upskilling:
  • Contribute to developing and delivering technology-related training sessions for staff across the organisation, focusing on general IT skills, cybersecurity awareness, and the needs of non-tech-savvy users.
  • KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Web App Maintenance and Improvement—Ensure the continuous development, maintenance, and optimisation of the web app to meet the evolving needs of the PDG team and enhance the overall user experience.
  • Mapping Content to DELIMa Platform—Successfully understand and align the PDG team’s training and coaching content to the DELIMa platform, ensuring smooth integration and access for users within the Malaysian education system.
  • Knowledge Management for PDG Team—Effectively manage and organise the PDG team’s knowledge assets, ensuring efficient access, storage, and retrieval of key information to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Smooth IT Operations and Support Across the Organization—Ensure seamless IT operations, including troubleshooting, policy implementation, and asset management, by providing effective tech support and solutions across the organisation.

  • Years of experience & qualification

  • At least 3-5 years experience in related fields to this role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing large-scale projects.
  • Able to to empathise with non-tech-savvy individuals and a passion for making technology accessible.
  • Familiarity with Malaysia’s Ministry of Education’s DELIMa system is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and solving technology-related challenges.

  • Language & Technical Proficiency

  • Strong written and verbal skills and excellent proficiency in English and basic proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong understanding of backend development for web apps and UX/UI design, and familiarity with basic programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or Python (desired).
  • Proven experience in LMS development and maintenance, ideally within an EdTech environment and the Malaysian education system.
  • Willing and able to readily adopt and utilise any TFM database or technological platform / application (i.e. Google Suites, Confluence, Salesforce, Zoom etc.)
  • Experience in Salesforce or CRM is not required but desirable.
