We are seeking an experienced Z/OS Programmer with 5+ years of hands-on experience to join our dynamic mainframe team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Z/OS systems, SMPE, IODF, cloning systems, software installation, patching, and managing software licenses. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth operations, maintaining system software, and optimizing mainframe environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain Z/OS systems, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
  • Utilize SMPE (System Modification Program/Extended) to manage software installation, apply PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes), and perform system updates and patches.
  • Perform IODF (Input/Output Definition File) updates to define and maintain mainframe hardware configurations.
  • Plan, manage, and execute system cloning activities, including creating and managing clones of Z/OS systems for development and testing environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Z/OS software and related subsystems, ensuring compatibility with hardware and software configurations.
  • Administer and manage software licenses, ensuring compliance and proper documentation of all software assets.
  • Conduct PTF (patch) management and regular updates to ensure system security and stability.
  • Perform regular system backups, disaster recovery planning, and ensure high availability of systems.
  • Provide support for DASD (Direct Access Storage Device) and tape management, storage group optimization, and volume creation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues.
  • Utilize ticketing and change management systems such as ServiceNow and BMC Remedy for incident tracking and resolution.
  • Optimize SMS (Storage Management Subsystem) ACS routines and ensure efficient utilization of storage.
  • Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and system monitoring to meet organizational goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience working with IBM Z/OS environments as a System Programmer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in SMPE, IODF, system cloning, and software installation.
  • Strong experience in applying PTFs, software patches, and managing software licenses in a Z/OS environment.
  • Knowledge of storage systems and technologies such as DS8K, TS7700, DFSMS, DFHSM, and GDPS.
  • Experience in DASD and tape management, including volume creation and storage group optimization.
  • Familiarity with REXX programming for automation and scripting tasks.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery processes and high availability setups like GDPS.
  • Experience with ticketing tools such as ServiceNow and BMC Remedy.
  • Strong knowledge of SMS, ACS routines, and storage management.
  • Solid communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with additional mainframe software such as DB2, CICS, RACF, TSO, and JCL.
  • Familiarity with automation tools like IBM System Automation and Netview.
  • Prior experience working with CA software products and Broadcom tools.
  • Certifications in relevant IBM Z/OS or mainframe technologies (e.g., Interskill, IBM training).
