What you’ll be doing

The Country Procurement Manager for Malaysia and Singapore is responsible for managing key vendor relationships, executing ocean freight strategies, and ensuring competitive procurement processes. You will be contributing to that vision by:

1. Vendor Relationship Development

  • Select liners and co-loaders beyond core carriers in alignment with FCL trade lane procurement managers and product heads.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with core carriers, monitoring and reviewing their performance regularly.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement action plans with carriers to address performance issues.
  • Act as the escalation point for operational issues, adhering to the Procurement Escalation Matrix.

2. Ocean Freight Strategy

  • Implement and monitor the Core Carrier Policy, ensuring compliance and ongoing improvement.
  • Evaluate carrier performance, set objectives, and build sustainable local relationships.
  • Align commercial and product strategies with the regional procurement teams and commercial heads for Malaysia and Singapore.
  • Manage local capacity allocations and forecast FCL needs during peak and low seasons.

3. FCL Tariff, Rates, and Contract Management

  • Negotiate rates and manage contracts with vendors for tenders, key accounts, and large volumes.
  • Secure competitive rates for spot business outside of standard tariffs.
  • Oversee tariff management for Malaysia and Singapore, ensuring competitiveness in local charges, customs clearance, and trucking rates.
  • Ensure competitive rates in the LCL Global Tariff through market research and alignment with the LCL Product Head.

4. Business Development

  • Lead ocean tender strategies for Malaysia and Singapore, in collaboration with sales and commercial teams.
  • Support commercial teams by visiting strategic customers and providing competitive buying rates for potential and existing businesses.

5. Market Intelligence & Product Training

  • Regularly share market intelligence with stakeholders and regional FCL/LCL teams in a systematic manner.
  • Organize product training sessions in collaboration with FCL and LCL Product Management to enhance knowledge of Rhenus ocean freight products.
  • Maintain strong relationships with country management, providing expertise on capacity, pricing, and product management.

What skills & experience you’ll bring to us

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in freight forwarding or ocean carrier roles.
  • Strong communication skills in English and local languages.
  • Expertise in vendor relationship management, negotiation, and procurement strategy.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with a hands-on, results-driven attitude.
  • Excellent multitasking abilities, capable of managing multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel
