Plant Manager - Manufacturing Engineering

Role Purpose - Provide first level day-to-day administrative and technical leadership for a staff of professional engineers and technicians within manufacturing engineering and program launch department to accomplish specific engineering projects. Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems. Responsible for the results of the department's efforts and for the effectiveness of their overall integration with other departments. Execute site industrial plans and footprint related activities to enable sites to accommodate growth and achieve operational excellence. Align capital requests to allocation process and drive production excellence through industrial & process related standards deployment. Direct work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress to ensure deliverables are achieved. Handle personnel actions including performance reviews, salary recommendations, and coordination of training and development. Help solve difficult technical problems. Typically lead a staff of five to twenty professionals.
Key responsibilities
Process Design Engineering
Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
Engineering Solutions Design
Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
Engineering Standards Specification
Contribute to the analysis of information, the drafting of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
Engineering Inspections
Carry out inspections to evaluate the quality of complex, large-scale engineering works and/or the integrity of existing complex, large-scale installations or structures, and specify the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
Leadership and Direction
Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these and to do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
Budgeting
Deliver a budget for an area of the organization or conduct complex analyses on budget progress in other areas of the organization.
Plant and Machinery Design and Installation
Design and supervise the installation of plant and machinery, including the civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering works, and commission the installation to meet specified operational requirements, organizational engineering standards, and regulatory standards.
Manufacturing Methods/Processes Development
Identify shortcomings in existing manufacturing processes, systems, and procedures; suggest and implement improvements; and develop and deliver larger improvement projects with guidance from senior colleagues.
Engineering Drawings
Manage and report on the performance of a substantial, diverse team; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.
Solutions Analysis
Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
Internal Client Relationship Management
Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and managing the deployment of appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
Health, Safety, and Environment
Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.

Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities. Education
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level
Experience
Substantial general work experience together with comprehensive job related experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level. (Over 6 years to 10 years)
