Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) is a Malaysian-based credit rating institution. Commencing operations in 1996, our rating coverage extends to Financial Institutions and Insurance, Structured Finance, Public Finance, and Infrastructure and Project Finance. Our research covers both economic and financial markets issues, providing relevant and thought-provoking reports to stakeholders.
Economists in our research team will be involved in rating sovereigns and state governments, and regularly publish independent research on the domestic bond markets, industry trends and economic policy issues. Economists will have the opportunity to collaborate in consultation projects, participate in high level conferences and provide policymakers input for building better nations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Continuously improve the analytical and written quality of economic, fixed income, sovereign and sub-sovereign rating reports, enhancing their rating methodologies, and implementing best practices.
- Database management for publications, ensuring relevance to report users by pursuing an active feedback loop.
- Implement data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, introducing innovative methods of data cleaning, methodologies, and statistical interpretation.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on both short-term and long-term issues of relevance to the economy and financial markets.
- Curate key economic and financial market themes through relevant news flow for further analysis and composition of reports and presentations.
- Design and execute appropriate administrative processes to support the team’s internal and external client engagements.
- Proactively engage in knowledge sharing within the team, continuously maintain departmental efficiency and effectiveness through teamwork.
- Develop towards public-speaking and representation of the company at high level meetings and conferences.
Qualifications
- Economic Analyst position: 3-8 years relevant experience; Senior Economic Analyst: 8-16 years relevant working experience; experience in economic, capital markets and fixed income research is preferred.
- Post-graduate qualification holder in a related discipline, such as in Economics, Econometrics and Finance, with results of high standing.
- Familiarity with relevant tools such as Bloomberg, Macrobond, VBA, SQL, R, Python, Stata, and databases of BNM, DOSM, World Bank, and IMF, etc. is an advantage..
- Strong technical, analytical and critical thinking skills, computer literate (competent with excel, powerpoint, etc.) and excellent, results-oriented time management.
- Good organisational, interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills.
- Excellent presentation and written communication skills are required.
