We seek a Sourcing Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Penang, Malaysia. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the Malaysian and Southeast Asian supplier markets for plastics, sheet metal, die casting, forging, stamping, silicone rubber keypads, Nameplates, and other mechanical products. This role will include sourcing and developing key suppliers to support our product manufacturing efforts.
Roles and Responsibilities
Supplier Visits:
Willing to travel to supplier locations for audits, evaluations, and negotiations to ensure quality and compliance with standards, covering all states in Malaysia and countries in Southeast Asia, such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.
Supplier Evaluation and Selection
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for related components.
Conduct supplier audits to ensure capabilities meet technical and quality requirements.
Cost Analysis and Negotiation
Analyze costs associated with mechanical parts, including materials, labor, and overhead.
Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to achieve favorable agreements while ensuring quality.
Technical Specifications Development
Collaborate with design and engineering teams of US and SE Asia suppliers to define technical specifications for related components.
Ensure that supplier offerings align with project requirements and standards.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams
Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to understand material needs and specifications.
Participate in design reviews to ensure sourcing aligns with product development.
Sourcing Strategy Development
Develop and implement sourcing strategies for related components to optimize costs and lead times.
Assess market trends and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for improvement.
Supplier Relationship Management
Build strong relationships with related suppliers to foster collaboration and resolve issues.
Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of supplier agreements, contracts, and procurement activities related to related sourcing.
Prepare reports on sourcing metrics, supplier performance, and cost savings for management review.
Risk Management
Identify potential risks in the supply chain for related components and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure contingency plans are in place to address potential supply disruptions.
Continuous Improvement
Implement process improvements in sourcing and procurement practices for related components.
Stay informed about industry advancements and best practices to drive innovation in sourcing strategies.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure all sourcing activities comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
Verify that suppliers adhere to quality and safety standards relevant to mechanical engineering.
Educational Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree: In a relevant field, primarily in Mechanical Engineering and secondarily in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration (with a focus on procurement or operations)
2. Certifications: Additional certifications qualifications, such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP)
Skills and Knowledge:
Understanding of sourcing and procurement processes.
Familiarity with materials and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of quality control and supplier evaluation techniques.
Proficiency in data analysis and cost management.
Languages proficiency in the following languages,
English is essential for communicating with the US HQ team and international suppliers, reading technical documents, and participating in meetings.
Malay is Malaysia's national language, and it is helpful for local interactions and understanding local business practices.
Mandarin or Other Chinese Dialects: Mandarin or other Chinese dialects are beneficial, especially when dealing with suppliers or partners from Chinese-speaking regions, as Penang has a significant Chinese community.
Additional Languages: Knowledge of other languages relevant to specific Southeast Asian suppliers (e.g., Thai, Vietnamese) can be an advantage
