About the role:
Ink is looking for an experienced Kuala Lumpur-based Deputy Editor for a leading airline’s inflight magazine.
Together with the Editor, the Deputy Editor will take ownership of the magazine, from inception through to print. You should be a natural at coming up with original, on-brand ideas (features, travel and upfront stories) and know the difference between a good story and a travel cliché. Experience in autonomously editing a print magazine and digital content is required, combined with knowledge of how to engage reader with travel stories and the skill to develop commissioned stories into a published piece that wins us awards.
The role:
- Producing the magazine and digital content on time and within budget
- Briefing and commissioning journalists best suited for each story
- Editing commissioned pieces and working in tandem with the writer so the story has a clear and compelling angle
- Collaborate with the Editor to ensure all stories focus on fresh and latest content, steering clear of rehashed or outdated topics
- Working closely with the art team to create dynamic, eye-catching layouts
- Managing the production workflow to ensure all stakeholders meet the deadline
- Meticulously proofreading content for typographical and design inconsistencies
- Working closely with the Senior Editor and Art Director, plus supporting the commercial team
- Responsible for coordinating and scheduling washups and meetings

- A robust command of the English language and the ability to think of several ways to tell a story
- Proven ability to craft and package underwhelming first submissions – transforming them into cohererent, engaging and award-winning stories
- A relentless attitude, ensuring every piece is refined and perfected until it's in top shape
- Minimum five years experience within an editorial department, working autonomously on a monthly print magazine is desired
- Impeccable organisational skills, team player attitude, plus the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Knowledge of SEO, CMS, Word and InDesign
